I personally got really bored of Death Note about halfway through, but I do think that having a social deduction Death Note game would be pretty cool and interesting!

I feel like it was so popular with some friends in high school, but I never got around to watching it. Then I tried watching it as an adult and I just could not get into it. The whole thing felt it was trying to tell a story about two big brained characters having a battle of wit, but the conclusions they'd come to did not make any logical sense. Like they'd just pull these insane (but correct) theories out of the air and it just didn't make sense. I'm not sure if it would have been more engaging as a teenager, but when I gave it shot I think I also tapped out somewhere around half way.

Spot on on my feelings to it as well, I stopped when they introduced Misa because it really just almost felt misogynistic at that point too. But the whole episode on the FBI guy's wife felt really dragged out and it was very early in the series.

I thought I would really like Misa when she was first introduced. Stopped really paying attention around there and finally gave up for good when L died. Like @Englerdy said, they no longer felt like clever solvable puzzles, but just wild and unlikely butt-pulls.

Like watching someone "solve" minesweeper by only placing correct flags without revealing a single number.

I think Misa was a good idea as a wrench to throw in the plot, but she's written so misogynistically that it's honestly kinda hard to get through. It's a shame bc I think there's so many good pieces to her character that would work well if executed very differently, but the sum of those parts is not well done in the actual manga or anime. She still serves her purpose as a plot device but not as a character.

I definitely don't blame you for dropping it when Misa was introduced, but fwiw, that's not even close to halfway through. I wouldn't ordinarily correct you on something like that, but there is a specific point that's halfway through the manga (I think about 2/3 through the anime? haven't counted episodes) that a lot of people stop at, and people will assume you watched a lot more of the show than you did if you say you stopped bout halfway through.

Honestly though, the episode with the FBI agent's wife is probably the best-written thing in all of Death Note, as it suffers the least from the show's pitfalls and puts the best parts of the show's writing on display. So if you didn't like that, you probably were never going to like what the show/manga is trying to do, much less its actual implementation. Which is fine, not everything's for everyone. It's not a show that takes a long time to grow on you if you're going to like it, so it's not something I'd recommend someone stick with if they weren't into it from early on.

I thought I watched 12 episodes or so, and I think I watched a couple of episodes of Misa before dropping it, but either way it didn't seem like it's for me either way. I made a thread almost a year ago asking about anime suggestions, that's kinda where I come from in general lol

It does kind of run out of steam after L dies, though. And I seem to remember that that was due to executive meddling. Obviously the way to end it is to have L unmask Kira by executing a gambit that he knows will result in his death.

It's probably going to be really fun for a really short while but regardless, I do applaud the balls going for something as difficult as social deduction.

Got pleasant flashbacks to Mitadake High/Misuterii High on BYOND. Those games had a Death Note mode, though usually only 1-2 killers (Kira and maybe someone with Shinigami eyes), and everyone else was normal. I wonder how long rounds will be in this game, and what sort of roles there will be...
