From what I am reading elsewhere and researching, this game is not likely to be made. Apparently, iwot productions has been around since 2004 as Red Eagle Entertainment. Their single solo creation since then is a 22-minute short film named Winter Dragon that aired overnight in an infomercial slot with zero advertising. After that they receive credits for the live action Amazon show and the GOG backed remaster of a 1999 WOT game. They seem to exist solely to receive money as a production company for the rights to use Wheel of Time. Barring there having been a hostile take over of the company, I doubt anything will come of this. It's especially telling for a company like this to make an announcement before any work has started on a game. Bethesda couldn't make this game in 3 years.

If you read through this page linked here you'll get a good rundown of the drama. Robert Jordan himself was apparently very displeased with them.

Came here to make sure this or something like it was posted. iWoT/Red Eagle are viewed with hatred and/or disgust by virtually all of the old guard WoT fandom because of their many false promises. They sued RJ's widow over her displeasure with the Winter Dragon thing.

They're technically listed as producers on the Amazon/Sony show but they're nothing more than leeches on that production who were given the title simply because they've been squatting on the rights for decades.

I used to play it for hours as a kid even though I hadn’t read the books.

I was curious, so I did a little research and was pleasantly surprised to see it is officially authorized by Robert Jordan.

It was I think the first online social experience / game I ever experienced, especially one with strangers. I'm not sure I ever advanced past level 2 and was mostly dying to small animals in the forest, but it was like nothing I'd ever experienced, especially the limited player interactions I had.

The trade reports that the Wheel of Time game will be an AAA open-world RPG “developed wholly in house by the team at the newly launched iwot games, which will be led by Warner Bros. Games vet Craig Alexander.” It’s expected to take three years before its arrival on both PC and consoles.

Alexander’s previous credits include The Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons & Dragons Online, and Game of Thrones-themed mobile game, so he has a handle on sprawling fantasy settings. “Adapting such a legendary mythology into an open-world RPG is a rare and ambitious challenge,” he told the trade. “I’m thrilled to lead the effort and build a world-class team capable of honoring this beloved world.”

I don’t have any particular interest in Wheel of Time, so I’d be curious to know what book / show fans think of this.

I am a huge fan of the books - I have a hardback editions section of my home library dedicated to all of them, and have read them through multiple times - and thoroughly enjoy the TV adaptation. I am also a big video game player. I feel I am likely the target demographic that they are looking for, except for that I don't really go for a lot of big AAA games.

I have a deep skepticism that this will materialize. I have a lot of doubts about it as a product as described.

I think they would be better served by a Telltale games style game, or something similar.

If it did materialize, I think the likelihood is that it will fall short of any expectations one might have as a fan. I don't think the magic system lends itself well to a playable RPG - it's more free form, and less game-system-y.

Well, I've recently been thinking a lot about how much I'd love something like LotRO to explore the world of WoT. But I'm definitely skeptical like the other commenters.
