PC has made it out of it's box finally! But that's about it, it is not yet hooked up and neither are the monitors.

I will say the one benefit of this break is I will have a lot of new things to explore in server once I'm back at it!

Also, I need to figure out what ray-tracing you're using @creesch , I've been working on some solar alignments of parts of the Temple, but the default minecraft world is on the equator with no axial tilt, which makes things celestialy boring.

        As far as shaders go:

Then if you want the exact same look as me you can import my settings

Fair warning, there might be an FPS impact as I have cranked some settings up. Generally I get 40-60 fps which is absolutely fine for me.

Edit: Figure I'd also include the resourcepacks

I had some fun flying around when I installed the "do a barrel roll" mod again. I figured I might as well make a recording while flying over town and some things nearby. There is a little bit of stutter (I think it is OBS related) and I think the color profile is a little bit off but it still turned out neat if I say some myself :)

    Edit:

I was not quite happy with it so I made a second recording flying the same router which I think turned out slightly better.

Update: The Great Nortern Road is becoming possible pretty decent: https://ieh.im/s/firefox_MCz4A8xUZA.png

in oher news… I managed to misplace my bed. Is there any way someone could, umm, visit the northern end of the road and deliver a bed in a chest by any chance? Also any birch logs would be appreciated, but the bed is what I really need. (I can get logs, just saying if you happen to have a ton to spare lol)

When I joined the server yesterday, it was night, and even though I had my bed on the hotbar, by the time I placed it, mods had spawned. And in looking around, I even triggered a damn enderman and I heard him just about to explode as I force-closed Minecraft. Thankfully the damn things despawn, so I was able to log back in in a few hours......... meh.

If nobody happens to want to bring me a bed… not a big worry. I'll log in next time and back out until it's daytime and I can safely travel. heh.

But how the heck do y'all deal with bulk mobs? I know everyone lights up the areas they hang out in, but that's not practical for building a road, where I'll light the road itself, but mobs will spawn not far away....

Sleeping is still valid, if you remember where you placed your bed. Something about competency? ;).
It is just that sometimes someone might ask to not sleep.

For the road down south towards the arena I placed fences on either side so I didn't need to light up the whole area and the road would still be safe to travel on for people. During building I just started out with the fences in sections. You still need to deal with skeletons shooting you, but that's why I have enchanted my armor with thorns so they take damage already and I don't have to shoot back as often.

I suppose that is one advantage of raised roads, but I'd prefer to deal with lighting. But moss and torches will help :) I always forget that it's relatively low light that prevents spawning. I keep things B R I G H T on my servers/games usually even though I typically have mob spawning set to false. heh.

But had also realized after posting and didn't have a change to edit - yep, can also log into server and log out if night; if mobs, log out and wait. lol.

But how the heck do y'all deal with bulk mobs? I know everyone lights up the areas they hang out in, but that's not practical for building a road, where I'll light the road itself, but mobs will spawn not far away....

You can also block mob spawns with string (mostly invisible with most texture packs), buttons (can look like pebbles), carpet (moss carpet), 2+ snow layers. And any other solid block without a full top face (e.g. stairs, bottom slabs, fences, soul sand, glass, etc).

You can also block mob pathfinding with a carpet on top of a berry bush.

Those will stop things like zombies, creepers, spiders, but skeletons can still shoot players up to 15 blocks away.

So in principle it is possible to light up only the road, and use the blocks listed above to prevent mob spawns out to 16+ blocks, and create a hidden barrier which mobs cannot walk across beyond that. But doing this along the entire road seems unreasonable.

      So instead my suggestion is:

Zombies have the farthest sight; they attack players within 35 blocks. So if you illuminate 36+ blocks to either side of the road, and the player stays on the road, no zombie that spawns will attack the player.

The zombie might walk into the lit area, in which case it could see the player. Extending the illuminated area a bit will reduce the likelihood; but the minimum for "safety" is 36.

So if you have a torch at the road, that illuminates ~15 blocks to either side. Put another torch ~25 blocks out, and in total that'll illuminate ~40 blocks to either side of the road (plus-or-minus a bit depending on how frequently you place the torches).

Holy crap fascinating stuff 90% of which I hadn't known or considered. Torching along the way seems damned good idea, had no real idea of the math, but I know we have a moss farm (apparently) so I can do the clever moss+torch trick, even (minecrafters blow my mind all the time lol)

Yeah, don't like the carpet/berry bush thing for this, but that is hilarious and will get used somewhere. lol.

So once I get the road somewhere close to where I want it to go (close to edge of map, looking at multipe areas)..... or maybe in stretched before it's done... I'll have to light up along the way :) Almost grateful that I do ugly straight-corner-straight sections as that'll make that easier. hehe

String... Do we have a string farm? Even if we did, I cannot imagine the utter abslute chaos of stringing large swatches of ground. lol

Instead of doing the moss and torch trick, I recommend lanterns and moss. Torches emit smoke particles that go through carpets and are visible, whereas lanterns do not

Do we have a string farm?

The piglin bartering system produces string, but not in huge quantities. I seem to recall a spider spawner farm at some point - but that might have been on the old server - I'd check the lectern at town square to see if there are coordinates. The problem with doing such a large area is you'd need on the order of thousands, and it's hard to tell what's placed already and what's not.

I can't say I recommend it, but If you do go that route, the Vanilla Tweaks resource pack has a "Visible Tripwires" option in the "Utility" section that makes string appear bright blue, much easier to see on the ground. You can also use a mod like "Lighty" or "MiniHUD" to show the light level and which blocks are spawnable to make sure the region is spawn-proofed.

I didn't fully enchant the gear, as some people are opinionated on things, so I left some of the opinion changes out. The ones that people have preference over are:

          • Including knockback on a sword. Some people prefer it, while others argue it makes fighting skeletons harder.
          • Including smite on a sword. Helps on undead mobs only, there is no major drawback (but might impact some things, in case of too expensive enchant)
          • Fire Protection and Blast Protection. These are incompatible with Protection, so I just went with protection on all equipment to give you a versatile set of armor, instead of specializing to buff specific damage types.
          • Did include the swimming advantage enchants which are useful, especially depth strider which helps in movement in water

Edit: Forgot to include including fire aspect on a sword. Useful, but then if a zombie hits you, you get on fire as well.

I have started to make visible progress on my large expansion of my home in town. This expansion is not like my other expansions of small additions, but is replacing the current main hall, and turns the current main hall into a secondary hall that branches off the new main hall. The grand entrance will be on the west side of the mountain, behind the early game furnace array in community farms. The existing entrances will continue to be in operation, but start to act more as secondary entrances (more entrances and mazes to confuse you TaylorSwiftsPickles). This expansion will end up with me claiming almost the entire mountain I have built into, with even plans to add structures to the top of the mountain in time.

      Utilities and Quality-of-Life

      • Accurate Block Placement makes it so when you hold down right-mouse it consistently places blocks while you look around or walk. Much easier and faster than repeatedly clicking the button!

      • Mouse Tweaks tweaks how the mouse works in inventories. For example it allows you to click-and-drag on items to collect things a bit more fluidly, or scroll on items to shift them in/out of chests.

      • Inventory HUD + shows my inventory, armor, and tools in a little translucent view on the main screen. Gives me some confidence I'm not about to break my elytra or run out of building blocks.

      • Xaero's Minimap and Xaero's World Map do what they sound like. The minimap appears in the corner of your screen, and the world map is a full-screen map on which you can place waypoints and view other dimensions. One really nice feature is, while in the overworld, you can view your equivalent position in the Nether or vice versa. Similarly you can place a waypoint in the Nether and have it appear in the Overworld or vice versa. Very helpful for linking portals!

      • RoughlyEnoughItems This isn't as useful nowadays since we have the crafting book, but I'm old-school from the days of TooManyItems and prefer to keep it around. The "favorited items" and "recipe tree" features are nice for keeping track of which building materials I need to collect.

      Vanity

      • LambDynamicLights I think this one is included in FO. It makes torches actually illuminate the area around you - very useful in your off-hand while mining! But be sure to still place real torches, as the dynamic lights do not prevent mobs spawning.

      • Distant Horizons well covered by others I think. Produces extremely far render distances, and allows you to set your "real" render distance much lower for better performance.

      • Isometric Renders lets you make cute third-person screenshots of your builds.

      • Better Clouds I don't like playing with shaders, but this along with Distant Horizons creates some really nice landscapes without losing that Minecraft "charm".

      • Better Third Person makes the third-person F5 view actually useful! I really like to use it while exploring.

      • Do a Barrel Roll makes flying elytra fun, but also extremely hazardous. Do not use this in the End! Just trust me on that lol. But exploring the overworld is a lot of fun with it. I recommend the "hybrid" control mode, where pressing space the first time enters vanilla-style elytra flight, and pressing space again enters DaBR-style flight.

      Technical

Less generally relevant to survival, but useful. Tweakeroo especially has a lot of things let you customize the game to extreme degree.

      • MiniHUD a very powerful but not-so-easy-to-use tool that does a whole bunch of stuff. Its namesake feature is to show customizable info in the corner in a "mini-f3 hud", but it also allows you to view spawnable block locations, structure borders, custom borders and overlays, etc. It's very useful for planning out farms and AFK spots.

      • Tweakeroo not dissimilar from MiniHUD, but more focused on quality of life changes. For example, it can switch away from your pickaxe if you're about to break it, automatically restock items in your hotbar if you're about to run out, provide a hot-key to let you place blocks diagonally-adjacent to others without scaffolding, and various other things.

      Not client-side

But indispensable on my local creative server:

      • WorldEdit for quickly editing builds. I think that some of this can be done in vanilla nowadays with commands, but I never learned that and WorldEdit is more powerful. There is also Axiom which is still more powerful and intuitive, aimed more specifically at creatives and designers, but I have not learned it. I am mildly curious if it's any more useful for technical builds than WorldEdit is.

        • Edit: After I dug up the link for Axiom I started poking around the documentation for it. It looks like it solves a lot of the issues I have with WorldEdit (specifically when you copy/paste, sometimes redstone components do not paste correctly). So I think I will start learning Axiom for my creative server.
      • Redstone Multimeter is frankly over-powered for debugging redstone contraptions. It does not change vanilla behavior at all; it simply allows you to monitor redstone components with an oscilloscope-type view, and step through the timeline to help make sure things update in the right order. Extremely helpful for debugging things.

Edit: I've tried Axiom for a few hours now, and I'm never going back to WorldEdit if I can help it. It is such a good tool, even for technical builds.

Bridging Mod is a mod that I've come to love that I think no one but me is using. It let's you place blocks like in bedrock edition. Hard to explain, but you can place blocks below the block you're standing on, and you can bridge out horizontally while facing the direction you're traveling. Makes building in many situations way easier.

Remembered I haven't done a Bluemap awareness round in a while ;). Bluemap is a server map available in the browser. Not only does it allow you to look at the world (in 3d!), it is also used to mark things like player homes, farms, factories, and transport options.

    A few tips and tricks:

If you want to add something as a marker on Bluemap, just reply to me here and I will get it sorted.

I don't see any indication fabric is loading, and certainly going to localhost:8080 does nothing (with game running and connected to server).

(Also the map isn't working but I haven't tried that - but it was listed as client-side)

If it helps, I'm using the Prism launcher.

      Dear Ms. Picklowska,

I am writing to you as legal counsel for my client, secret_online, regarding your recent correspondence dated 08/05/2025.

Firstly, it is important to clarify that there exists no binding contract or agreement between my client and your organization. As such, any claims made in your note regarding alleged damages or infestations are entirely unenforceable.

Furthermore, I would like to address the nature of your claims, which appear to be setting forth unreasonable restrictions upon what constitutes acceptable behaviours in this area. Cuddle Zones are protected in this space, and any purported restrictions infringe on the catgirls' right to personal expression and creativity on this server. Your advice regarding headpats and energy drinks is appreciated and has been forwarded to my client.

In the spirit of transparency, I formally request any and all evidence or documentation that supports your claims. Without such evidence, it is clear that your assertions hold no merit and should be dismissed.

I look forward to your prompt response.

      Sincerely,

I have plans to extend the road south to the mountains, then will narrow the road and have it start zig-zagging a bit.

Also, the connector road to the Lime road (towards the arena) - I tentatively plant to extend it west toward the village, and perhaps beyond, but I haven't surveyed what's over there - I know there are some builds, so I'll have to see if it makes sense and if I can do so without disturbing anything - but perhaps providing a road connection in that direction.

Godzilla was having a hard time, so I gave him a friend.

I did the designing in a singleplayer world using Axiom. Once I'd figured out the shape I copied in a schematic of the actual world so I could position it and draw the laser. The texturing was done using Axiom's noise painter, as it gave pretty much what I wanted without me having to place individual blocks. Once I was ready I created a new schematic and placed it on the server. Most of the miscellaneous materials were present, but I had to spend a while gathering the Dark Oak. Then once I had everything I put on some YouTube in the background and started placing the blocks. All up, this was around 6 hours of work today.

And for those who don't know what this is referencing, have this Wikipedia article.

And I don't think I could have ever guessed it would be this kiwi that you'd be adding as an ally for godzilla. I was assuming it'd be something either "very monster-y" or something very technological, yet this fits in surprisingly well

https://ieh.im/s/i_view32_pjcDIJjsJO.png — the Great Northern Road is visible. Also, the "L" shape at the bottom is the location of my new town site. There is a connection to the road-by-the-lime-line road, which I have mostl finished and fixed south of where it splits from being next to the lime line.

https://ieh.im/s/YjHDi9cryh.png — It appears to me that there is a clear path to directly connect my road up to Tildestown. Then I'll extend it to the south.

I plan to mark out larger estates down here. Perhaps like 32x32 or so. Maybe like 48x48. Not sure. Open to suggestions.

One request, the connection between the two southern roads is no wood, can we make that in the same style of the original southern road so it blends in a bit more?

I wasn't thinking of that as a continuation of that road. Well, this has evolved anyway, so perhaps it makes sense, but originally I was building a spur off to the town's valley. But I happened to get to the top of that hill where I will be buiding my house, and loved the view, and thought - exend the road toward town. And maybe a bit to the south - there's a natural stopping point for this road to the south.

But I looked at the map and realized I could take this road all the way to the mall, it looks clear and like a nice path.

Perhaps I could re-do the original southern road and make a tee where the lime line turns, or maybe on the south side of that tunnel, and take it over to meet the road I'm building - in which case I'd match the style, sure.

Or maybe keep the current path...

Although if the new road becomes the southerly route, I'll have to narrow it out of town. And will quickly run out of andesite I think, and carryint materials is a pain, so I'd turn it back into birch at some point.

But this idea is evolving a bit still, so..... what do you think? I'm open to working it out :)

I think it is fine to have two parallel roads. In fact, the new road you are building will service the raid village a bit better as that currently has no road.

You stopped mid-quote on that one, sorry for not explaining well.

That concept was to take the section of the road I mostly-finished that's the part of the road south of where the lime line turns to the arena - and create a T intersection. Remove the part going further south, and leave the road to the arena, but instead of continuing to the south as it does now, push it to the west.

Hang on, I can screenshot this idea: https://ieh.im/s/firefox_nGEKt734Jh.png

① New connection to my new road which would be the Great Southern Road
② Potential removal of existing road south of this new T intersection, and birch road I built recently
③ Possible alternate - L corner to connect to my road and terminate old road south of tunnel

This is not "my proposal", this is one option or set of options I see that could make sense.

Another alternative would be to leave the Lime road as-is but stone-i-fy the birch part to better match. If we do that, I could still create a connection to the new road from where the lime road goes to the arena (the ① road)

There are probably other possible ideas of what to do with this, including leaving everything as is except stone-i-fy the birch road. edit: "re-do the original southern road and make a tee where the lime line turns, " - hopefully below makes this make sense :)

Hopefully that explains intents better, but if something sounds stupid, please come back at me, it's surely not what I meant and I'm still explaining poorly. lol

but basically I don't have a single plan, but a set of ideas, but open to others I hadn't thought of.

As I said, we are not removing any roads as far as I am concerned. The section you proposed to potentially be removed is not quite finished, the arena also has a southern entrance and at some point I am planning to connect the road to there. I just haven't gotten around doing so quite yet.

I was surveying again between there and town and would still like to connect to the mall, but I think the parallel roads will be just fine.

Also, for the record, the scattered lanterns are temporary. I'll eventually replace them with probably a stone wall pillar and hanging lantern thing, i.e. simple design.

Another thread reminded me that wikis exist.

I'm gonna set up a wiki for us. I mean, unless people think that idea sucks.

What can it be used for? Well, anything. Tips for idiots like me. Where farms are. Guidelines/rules/Don't Be a Dick. Screenshots of projects. Anything :)

I mean, some of this we know, but there might well be things worth writing down.

It can be tiny and still be useful.

I'm thinking of putting it at tm.ieh.im or tm.na1.site - "Tildes Minecraft" - just to keep it super short. But I own other domains, and we could call it something else.

What do you think, and let's discuss names unless people think it's a horrible idea. lol

I can also provide a list of software I can host so if anything else strikes anyone's fancy, I could set that up also.

Baically, I just realized that I do have a resource that could be useful.

Also also, if we were to ever need, like, file downloading or something, I can host things like that, too.

If you were to poke around Simutrans and stumble across some of the various things I host - I'd be glad to host things like that for us. <3

I think it is a bit much to be honest.

      • Where farms are. That's what bluemap is for, on the top left is a hamburger menu. From there you can browse markers for each world including farms. At the town messageboard is also a book with locations. You did remind me I haven't done a Bluemap awareness post in a little while
      • Guidelines/rules/Don't Be a Dick. There is only one rule, which is shown when you log into the server. The rest is consensus based. While there is an alleged cult surrounding my personality, I wouldn't want my ramblings to be written down as actual rules for example :P. If you feel like there are some more core things missing I feel like that just should be added to this weekly thread.
      • Screenshots of projects, that's what this thread is for. People can also check bluemap to get an idea of what is on the server. More importantly, they can log on to the server themselves. ;)

Then for other information there is this thread were people can ask information. Adding a wiki, I feel like, would add confusion on where to find information. Not to mention that someone is going to need to remember to update the wiki as well.
If anything, if we do want to provide some base information outside the game, I feel like it should be here in this thread.

Of course, as Mendanbar said, feel free to document stuff for yourself for private use.

Late to the party, but I feel there is still valid reasoning for setting up a wiki that hasn't been explored. While we do have in-game ways to document things, and we have these weekly chats for discussions, what we don't really have is a way to have things consolidated in one place for easy viewing long term. For example if we had a wiki, there could be a place to document and showcase builds and events from past (and future) iterations of the server. Imagine being able to click through pages of pictures showcasing various builds with stories from the last server, Bendvis' floating dragon home, the giant statue battle with the ufo, the Easter egg hunt/fireworks show. I think for this usecase it's a very valid idea.

I am very opinionated about how we document things. I like blue map, but also I prefer it also to be fully documented in game for immersion reasons. Therefore, I am not a fan of when we minimize navigation in game because of blue map. Ideally, everything should be possible to figure out in game, and external online resources are just extra help. However, I think having a static URL we can provide for newcomers to get them acquainted with the server is beneficial. Having stuff like what the rules/norms about claiming land are (you can build in any empty space in town), some notes on farms are communal so feel free to take, community stances on client side mods, and other similar things would be beneficial. Normally that is covered by whoever is online via in game chat, but having a static URL for newcomers who join when the server is quiet would be useful

My immediate reaction is that I wouldn't want to take things away from the sort of organic documentation in game, so I wouldn't necessarily want to discourage people from using the in game books and maps for farms and such. But when you mentioned screenshots, file downloads, etc, that reminded me of Hermitcraft's website. In that context I think it could be pretty nice to have a dedicated place to host things that exist outside of what can be done with the existing game and plugins. Just my measly $0.02.

I can host videos. Offhand, WordPress might be a good choice - setting up accounts and giving people the ability to write posts.... it's pretty easy to do.

        so there's options :)

I'm thinking of some of the things that I like to hoard when they are posted in the server threads here: map downloads, screenshots (thanks @creesch), schematics, etc. It can sometimes be hard to dig up things posted in previous threads, so having a dedicated place would be very nice I think. I could also see it being useful to have links to common client side mods, server join instructions, and probably other info I can't think of at the moment.

I look for consensus, don't worry. Just saying everyone is a valuable member of that consensus. …except Pickles.

If I don't like someone, I don't interact with them.

I adore you and think you are awesome.

There has been a culture of jokes like this in many places in my life. I don't know even how to characterize it, but when one is in a group of friends that likes each other, it is common to say ridiculously stupid "offensive" things with the intended meaning being the opposite of what is said. Sort of like being self-deprecating, but saying something ridiculous because the exact opposite would be the actual case? Explaning any sort of joke ruins it, and it's hard to know how to explain.

But the reason I called you out was specifically meaning the opposite of what I technically said. It is the opposite that your opinion doesn't matter to me; on the contrary, it matters more than many others.

I have enjoyed the little time I have seen you on the server. I enjoyed our chats. I appreciate you; your kindness, humour, lightness; I find you adorable and delightful.

I am absolutely most sincerely gutted and sorry that my attempt at a silly joke that was intended to make you feel called out — in a positive way — has landed so severely sourly.

I apologize that it has taken me this long to reply, but when I saw this reply this morning, it completely ruined me to know that have screwed up this badly.

I beg your forgiveness. And I sincerely hope your day improves after such a horrible start.

Thank you, and no worries, I have more serious things actually think or worry about in real life, so a misplaced joke on the internet, even with such bad timing, is not that big of a deal. I of course forgive you, as there's not much for me to forgive anyway.

That said, living on the other side of the globe, this is not really humour I actually ever see or get exposed to, and so there was no way for me to actually interpret this as intended.

FWIW, I also use this kind of humor with my close friends in real life. It doesn't work well over text when you can't see a silly grin on their face when it's said.
