I hate Nintendo with a passion, but they're really the only compagny that keeps giving us these colourful, fun platformers. I wish there was another one, because I don't want to pay 100CAD for a game.

    Supply and demand, I guess.

I’m actually shocked at how good this looks. I was originally pretty dismayed to hear one of the big (close to) launch titles was going to be a Donkey Kong game. But it seems like they’ve taken a lot of good design decisions they’ve learned from Odyssey and BoTW/TotK and applied them in a unique way. I’m excited to play!

The second player integration seems a bit half assed, but I do get the primary intent is for parents with children that want to be involved in simple ways. It’s interesting that the game is not available on the Switch but can be shared in the 2P context for it. I’m not opposed to the choice but it does feel blatantly like a cash grab. I thought Nintendo would be a little kinder compatibility-wise with some early releases if hardware didn’t limit things too severely, but it seems that’s not the case.

I still don't know if this game is for me, but they've definitely put in way more effort than I would have expected Nintendo to give to a DK game. The wide range of moves, collectibles, optional challenges, the skill tree, traversal expanding transformations, the "assisting" 2 player mode and even weird Nintendo-y stuff like the sculptor mode (real Mario 64 opening screen vibes) is on the level of what I would expect to see in their flagship Mario games.

Apart from the obvious resemblance to Mario Odyssey, there were also quite a few bits which reminded me of Banjo-Kazooie - particularly stuff like the flying transformation trailed by a stock of egg ammo and the nonsense-language which the animal characters speak. It'll be really interesting to see how it feels to play.

Wow. Looks fantastic. This game clearly has Mario Odyssey DNA and that is obviously good news. Mario Odyssey was a fantastic game in the way it handled its worlds and this looks to be equal or maybe even better in that aspect!! Also, I love Pauline. I love singing juuuump up super high, high uuuup in the sky all the damn time. What a fantastic choice to have her as the sidekick. Oh man, I need to get a friend who can share this game to my Switch 1..

Reminder: this is even before the MP4 release. Which could be another.
