They want the ultimate DRM. I‘m super scared about game publishers‘ endgame with this. Streaming-only distribution, some time in the future with better internet, would mean zero code facing the public. Just button inputs sent to them and video streams sent back. A complete Blackbox and complete control over the ecosystem. Let’s hope shitty internet will keep that future away.
This is exactly my concern. We already don't own physical copies for most games we buy, I really don't want to move to a situation where we don't even have the game's bits on our machines. I...

I really really don't like this, but I'm trying to keep an open mind... for now.
I agree. I think it’s a positive sign that Microsoft received a lot of backlash and had to change their plans when they tried to push that “always on” bs when they launched the xb1. That’s...
I agree. I think it’s a positive sign that Microsoft received a lot of backlash and had to change their plans when they tried to push that “always on” bs when they launched the xb1. That’s entirely the reason why I own a ps4 and not xb1 when I previously had an original and 360 Xbox. If they take away physical games for consoles, I just won’t buy them anymore.

As an American, the true nightmare will be broadband caps + no internet neutrality (locking you down to specific streaming services to avoid going against your cap) + input lag (maybe increased input lag on newer games) + never owning anything (true DRM. No borrowing games, no selling used games). Also, pay to cheat. If this becomes more common, or atleast the norm, I'll pretty much just walk away from gaming.
I'm pretty excited about this. Microsoft Research has been doing a lot of work in streaming for games and VR for the last 4-5 years. Hope it turns out well. One example can be found here from...

Does anybody actually plays core games on a smartphone? That sounds so horribly terrible, I've never thought they'd invest resources into something like this.
I was thinking the same. Even if the graphic quality is going to be on par... and that's not a big feat if they aim at high level hardware phone... how you manage efficiently the 'controls' part?

Do you imagine how will last a battery (even of an high end mobile phone) running a "console level" graphic? You will have to stick in a controller, and also keep it connected to the charger. I...

You will have to stick in a controller, and also keep it connected to the charger. I mean, why hating ourselves so much?
Oh god, it's gonna fucking drain batteries. Will definitely have to be plugged in 24/7 and at that point just play on your fucking computer. Right? Knowing when to stop is important. Just work on...

Right? Knowing when to stop is important. Just work on the next re release of Skyrim or something. Maybe make it run on a tamagotchi.
An extremely underpowered Switch that wouldn't be able to run barely any games decently. I don't think streaming is enough to bring core games to smartphones.

Because it's a phone. Even the top flagship phones are nowhere near even console performance. For one, the lack of a dedicated GPU will be a huge hurdle. As I said, I don't believe streaming will...
