They should ask Sony what happened when they tried to do the same thing on the PSP. Though to be fair, the entire xbone library is available digitally, a luxury the PSP did not have.

It would complete the transformation of the Xbox One into a Windows 10 S PC. Microsoft's dream since the start.

Maybe, but it's still just making a PC with an internet connection. But instead of using the Windows Store it uses Steam.

Yes but it's Linux, it's FOSS. Windows is the opposite, it trades your data for profit, it most likely has government back doors built in... etc. That's scary, Linux isn't.

A lot of people are going to "DRM REEEEEEE" over this, and rightfully so, but I'm more confused on what Microsoft's endgame is here. I think they're trying to copy Steam and create an online platform for games, but 1) Microsoft's exclusives lately have been laughable excuses for hot-ass garbage that should never ever cost $60 (looking at you Sea of Thieves), 2) I don't really think there's room for another Steam in the market -- think about it, if indie developers want to get their game on a platform, who are they going to first?

Honestly, I rather download the games just because I HATE getting up to put the game disc in each time. So, so lazy.

There's an argument that a used games market increases sales of new games. If I know I can sell this game if I don't like it it means I'm more likely to try it. If I can sel my old games I have more money to buy used games. And if I can buy cheap second hand games I'm more likely to buy a console, and that increases the market for cheap new games.

On PC you can ALWAYS keep DRM free games. If you're afraid of something like this, and I am not as I trust Valve and they have gone on record to say they have plans for this (could just be PR talk but whatever), you can buy from GOG, or itch.io, places like that.

The original idea was that the Xbox One would only use discs for initial installation, but would basically be useless beyond that,

It's incredibly user hostile. You buy a disc and there's a forced 40 GB download before you can play the game. That might be ok for people with good quality internet, but even somewhere like the UK this is a problem.
