Mario Maker 2 is bittersweet for me; Mario Maker is the last reason my Wii U is still plugged in (with the exception of a late purchase of Funky Barn, everybody's game of the year for all years), so once MM2's out I have a feeling it'll be off to the Drawer of Older Consoles. It might get a stay because my wife Mario Karts with motion controls (...ugh), and the Wii U's wheel is bigger than the Switch's.

Really looking forward to Link's Awakening, as well. I have majorly fond memories of that game since I spent a long time in the hospital once when I was a kid, and my parents got me an Ice Blue GB Pocket that came with Link's Awakening. That game got me through a lot of stress. Still enjoy it, albeit in DX form. And now this!

I'm excited for Mario Maker. During the move my Wii U tablet was broken and Nintendo wanted essentially the cost of a new Wii U to replace the tablet, so I just shelved it.

I have fond memories of the Wii U but I'm so glad the Switch came out to replace it. Everything about the switch is everything I wished the Wii U was.

I keep my WiiU around for Pikmin 3 as well, because my partner has taken a liking for it. But I think mario maker 2 will be the nail in the coffin. And Pikmin 4, if that ever comes out!

If you want to stave off shelving the WiiU a while longer and you like JRPGs at all, you might check out Tokyo Mirage Sessions. It was, frankly, a bizarre game – but excellent. The combat mechanics were novel and compelling, and it used the Gamepad thoughtfully.

I’d love to see it ported to Switch, but I think it would lose something in translation.

Tetris 99 was just absolutely not on my radar. I played a couple rounds tonight and really enjoyed it. It was very frantic and I ended up getting overwhelmed by some very good players really quickly.

Astral Chain looks sick, I'll be keeping an eye out for that for sure!

Since nobody's mentioned it so far: I'm quite excited for Yoshi's Crafted World.

I downloaded and played the demo, and found it to be really adorable and fun. It took me ~30 minutes to 100% the demo (get all flowers). The world is excessively cute, and I really like the mechanic where, after playing the world in the correct direction, then you play the world in reverse and see "what you're not supposed to see", like how the world is put together with cut up cardboard and newspapers and such. I just hope it presents some challenging gameplay in the later levels, this demo was far too easy.

Regarding the difficulty, though, unless things are very different I wouldn't be surprised if the whole game is basically "easy mode". I don't know if you played Woolly World, but that could basically be completed while napping. Not that I hold it against Woolly World -- that game was charming as hell regardless of difficulty.

It's frustrating to wait for very specific games that are rumored, seem right around the corner and then... never getting them, lol. But I kinda like the Switch community (the Switch subreddit is one of the few I still visit regularly) and the genuine happiness when a niche fanbase gets new info on a game they've been waiting for. Mario Maker 2 looks fun, like the one take on 2D Mario that I feel in 2019 is still wild enough to get me interested. Also gonna check out the Tetris Battle Royale game, that's gotta be insane!

... But where the hell is Pikmin?!?
