Epic Games Store - Mega Sale - Up to 75% off and $10 off every game $14.99+
Making this as a text post because the Epic Store interface isn't very good, and I want to be able to highlight particular sales.
Here's a better interface for browsing on gg.deals
First: this is a bizarre sale and clearly another case of Epic effectively subsidizing something that wouldn't be possible normally. As a really blatant example of what's crazy about it, I posted the announcement trailer for John Wick Hex last week. It got announced 8 days ago, there isn't even a vague release date, and they don't even know which consoles it's coming to yet. Even with that, it's on sale here now for $8 instead of $20 - 60% off, a week after announcement!
So because of that, here's some of the sales that seem most ridiculous due to being unusually large discounts, especially on games that aren't even out yet or just came out. Let me know if you spot more, all prices USD:
Game | Sale Price | Normal Price | Discount |
---|---|---|---|
John Wick Hex | $7.99 | $19.99 | 60% |
Satisfactory | $19.95 | $29.95 | 33% |
Shakedown Hawaii | $9.99 | $19.99 | 50% |
Slime Rancher | $4.99 | $19.99 | 75% |
Subnautica Below Zero | $9.99 | $19.99 | 50% |
Wow, Epic taking their subsidizing strategy and going to town on it, bringing back some of the Steam Sales deals of yore. Might be time to drop on Hades.
Hades is fantastic, and a steal at the price.
Oxygen Not Included leads to a 404 page. Doesn't seem to be available as far as I can tell. The devs twitter didn't say anything about it.
devs are pulling out because the wacky regional prices is making unreleased games to become very cheap(less than $10).
Which is ironic since epic employees lambasted valve and steam for devaluating games with their sales.
I don't think it's even necessarily related to the regional pricing, but that sales this deep on Early Access games have a high chance of pissing off people that bought the game earlier. Those are people that helped support the game's development by buying an incomplete game in Early Access, so you don't want to get them upset. Part of the implicit deal of Early Access is that games generally won't go on large sales, and will often even have their price increase when they reach full release.
Oxygen Not Included had never been more than 25% off before, and I expect that they wanted a 25% off sale here as well - that would have made it $18.74, but then Epic cut an extra $10 off it, which turned it into a 65% off sale instead. It's the same for the devs either way (I'm sure Epic is covering that $10), but makes early buyers unhappy.
Oh weird, it looks like they removed it. It was definitely there before, here's some people talking about it on reddit too.
First step in the right direction. Now stop all the exclusivity and begin adding basic features and I might even use the store.
That Subnautica price is killing me. After being burned a couple times I no longer pay for early-access games, but I love Subnautica dearly and am hopelessly excited for Below Zero.
I suppose now is when we test the strength of my resolve.
I first played subnautica in very early access, and I wish I hadn't. I love the game, it was amazing, but I wish the full retail release was my first time playing it. I'm waiting this time with below zero, not because I don't want to pay, but because I know it's going to be an inferior experience vs when it's done.
I bought Below Zero on steam a week ago or so; the campaign is far from finished and provides 1-2 hours of playtime at most if you're familiar with the mechanics.
I suggest you wait until it's closer to finished.
Been some oddities with the sale already. No Ubisoft titles on the store, Vampire 2 has been delisted, and Hades has suddenly jumped from $7 to $15 as the MSRP got raised.
They've put a few games but it still requires Uplay kind of how they've done with Steam.
Yes, The Division 2 and Anno 1800 were both moved off Steam and are now only available on uPlay and Epic Store. Ghost Recon Breakpoint was never put on Steam, and is available for pre-ordering on uPlay and Epic as well.
Well, Hades was the main thing I was thinking about buying, so much for that. Removed it from the list of sales in the OP too.
I get the impression that Epic didn't tell the devs about the extra $10 they were going to take off their prices, because that obviously caused some major changes in the sales that it doesn't seem like they're happy with.
Seems like. Trawling through the r/GameDeals posts, there are a few other titles affected similarly. Seems that Epic didn't consider what regional pricing would do, or how easily people can flip a VPN—Vampire was marked down to $9 in some places, a year before release!
EDIT: just found this posted on r/Games, from the Hades Discord:
"Hey, we wanted to let you know Hades is currently on sale for $14.99 after discounts on the Epic Games store. Folks can pick it up at www.PlayHades.com. We think there's never been a better time to experience our rogue-like dungeon crawler!
The game's retail price is now $24.99, up from $19.99 at launch, based on continued improvements and additions we've made so far in Early Access, including: an entire new biome, 7 new fully voiced characters including 4 new bosses, hundreds of new fully voiced narrative events, 10 new enemy types, a new weapon, and dozens of new powers and abilities.
All told, we think this new price point reflects the game's current value in Early Access. As we expect to continue in Early Access until sometime next year, it's possible we adjust the price again by the time Early Access is complete. We'll strive to provide plenty of advance notice if that happens. Thank you for your support of this game!"
EDIT 2: The price is now back down
Meanwhile...

I get that Epic kind of dropped the $10 price in their lap, but Supergiant doesn't come out of this smelling like a rose either.
The price is back down now, they decided to reverse it about two hours ago.

Feeling pretty good about snagging Hades before they corrected the price.
There are a few games in here that are tempting but they're preorders. I'm not morally opposed to preordering games, it's just usually a dumb thing to do. Still, the price could be right for some of these, particularly Afterparty, John Wick Hex, and Obsevation. I love what the developers of those games have done before, and I'd probably buy them sight unseen anyway.
Also tempted by World War Z, but I have no friends and I doubt it'd be much fun solo.
Oh god I want to play Hades, because Super Giant, but I really don't want to support Epic with their unfair business practice, making everything exclusive and such.
Are they Epic Store-exclusive – do I get them on my Steam library, or a DRM-free version – if I buy any of those titles?
It will just be in your Epic Store library.
Thanks.
Some Epic games work without the launcher. You can deinstall it and it'll work just fine.
Oh, it's Epic, so I won't gamble.
It's been that low (and close) quite a few times before, but definitely still a really good deal for a great game.
Yeah, I highly highly recommend this game. It's a relentlessly difficult puzzle game, but if you're struggling, it's because you haven't internalized or discovered a piece of knowledge that the game is trying to teach you. And the world is so beautiful. Best played with a notebook—I filled up an entire field notes memo book with notes and sketching out solutions/rules.
Caved and finally created an epic account for this. ♪~ ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ
