I personally can not wait to see more from the game, from what the website says; This is literally the type of game I have spent the last 10+ years fantasizing about so I hope it is executed well.

Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. Now you can take control of the action and be at the center of your own adventure in the wizarding world. Embark on a journey through familiar and new locations as you explore and discover fantastic beasts, customize your character and craft potions, master spell casting, upgrade talents, and become the wizard you want to be.
Experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. You have received a late acceptance to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and soon discover that you are no ordinary student: you possess an unusual ability to perceive and master Ancient Magic. Only you can decide if you will protect this secret for the good of all, or yield to the temptation of more sinister magic.
Discover the feeling of living at Hogwarts as you make allies, battle Dark wizards, and ultimately decide the fate of the wizarding world. Your legacy is what you make of it.

I've come around to the concept of using the structure of school and classes as a way to gate progression in a sort-of open world. It makes the game mechanics feel very organic to the setting. Persona 5 and Fire Emblem: 3 Houses both really benefited from overlaying that structure and time-management aspect over the general "you can go anywhere, do anything" scope of open world games
This looks promising. Hope it's like the first three Harry Potter games. Roaming around Hogwarts in open world again (that too in HD now) looking forward to the release.

I'm very excited for this but also trying to remain cautious, there are so many ways it could go wrong. That said, I'm sure I'll line up to buy it on release day.

I'd be way more interested in this if Ol' Joanne the TERF hadn't made me spend so much time reflecting on how lame the books and world actually are. Might be worth pirating at some point I guess.

If you're still interested in a magical academy setting but with a better magic system, and an author that isn't incredibly transphobic, I recommend the web novel 'Mother of Learning'....
If you're still interested in a magical academy setting but with a better magic system, and an author that isn't incredibly transphobic, I recommend the web novel 'Mother of Learning'. Essentially, the premise is that a student of a magical academy gets stuck in a time loop, a la groundhog day. It's one of my favorite takes on the magical school settings and it's almost as long as the entire harry potter series.

This game looks great, but I'm particularly excited because it's pretty much being developed in my back yard.

Mother of Learning was recently completed, was it not? It's been on my to-read list for a while now.
The Magicians is pretty cool too, and super gender fluid.
