Valheim Tildes Community Server Update #2
Here's the server info, again thanks to @Icarus.
Just a quick update that I have completed the communal village portal hub and storage building. Check it out! Major biomes are located on the first floor (with an attached dock incoming) and the second floor is for key areas like the Trader and Boss altars. Be wary of going into dangerous biomes alone if you're new, especially the Plains or Swamps.
Third floor will be a communal storage and miscellaneous area, feel free to use it however you wish. Put your bed up there and make it your room if you want.*
*I just need to add a fire pit.
I can't remember now, but wasn't somebody talking about setting up a discord server for this too?
I was mentioning it but I don’t know anything about that. I think there was a comment suggesting we just use the general Tildes discord but I don’t know how welcome that would be if we’re focused on one game.
Well a new channel within it would work, if whoever administrates that could make one.
I can ask the other Discord server admins if they would be cool with me throwing up a valheim channel.
Edit: They were cool with it. #valheim is up, for all the "lovely people" in the unofficial Tildes Discord server.
p.s. Village looks great, @Good_Apollo!
Thanks for doing that! I couldn't even find that discord server for a bit.
@Icarus : I couldn't connect to the Tildes server today. Did anything go wrong? I randomly noticed in the Changelog that, yesterday, they added a "public" flag to servers. Does that have anything to do with it?
I'm not entirely sure. I just performed a server restart so let me know if that fixed the issue for you. I will look at the available settings I can configure to see if there is a new toggle.
I tried, and was able to log in just now. Thanks.
Does it make sense to join the Server as a new player?
It depends. One of the amusing aspect of Valheim is discovering new items, ores, biomes, etc.. as you go. If you join a server that already has all of this, it might get overwhelming and you may get spoiled if that's a concern for you. I've been playing with 3 other friends of mine and one stopped playing because we were playing way more than him and he became bored because he missed all the action.
But then, some players are in just for the building and don't mind so it all depends on you. While I haven't visited the Tildes server, I'm sure there's plenty of helpful people to guide you around.
Przmk makes good points in his comment. I'll just add: If you don't mind seeing spoilers or feeling "behind", then you can dive right in and set up a house in the main village. If you do want to avoid seeing spoilers, or you want to advance your character a bit first, there's nothing wrong with finding a secluded area away from the village, and setting up your first dwelling there. The world is quite big, and even if there were 20 active players who log in and out of the game, there would be plenty of free space available.
Personally, I would encourage you to give it a try. I don't see any problem with joining an established, mature server as a new player. Naturally, you'd be a bit behind in terms of resources and research/recipes, but there is no rush to advance these things, and the world is big enough for you to be able to do things on your own for a while. Plus, PvP is entirely opt in, so you don't have to worry about high level players stomping you. I don't think I've seen any PvP at all on the Tildes server.
Yeah the only thing that sucks for a new player is the enemies advancing because of bosses killed on the server. Staying inside at night largely negates this but I think we’re looking to see if we can reset this for the server so new players don’t get screwed.
