What are the summer activities you are looking forward to?
Happy summer! Now that the weather is hopefully better, what are your favorite ways to get active outdoors?

Honestly? Getting back to archery.
It's a year long indoor thing. But the club uses a school sports hall for our kit, and it's exam season. Once the kids clock off? It's back to three nights a week of practice!
Considering competing next year.
Counting down 'till the winter solstice, as I lie wide-awake in bed, soaking in sweat, staring balefully at the first rays of sunlight making their way into my bedroom at five in the morning, while thinking that - all things considered - the White Witch had a point.
I might deign to give scratchies to the kittens, when provided with ample shadow and a brisk breeze, but otherwise? Summer is too hot for me to get active, and too bright for me to consider doing so outdoors.
My apartment was supposed to have the pool construction done by the end of May, but of course they don’t. Really looking forward to that when it is complete though! That combined with baseball games across the street from my place make for some very relaxing summer weekends.
That’s being active, isn’t it?
As far as health/fitness goes, I walk about four miles a day just because I don’t drive, so looking forward to more of that too with nicer walking weather! Been great for my health ditching the car and walking everywhere possible!
Being active doesn't always have to be targeted at fitness. I found I was the most in shape in college when I walked for all my errands and generally spent more time outside than I do with a full time job.
Oh for sure, I’m a full-time student at 30 and the walking I’m forcing myself to do has been enough to get me in the best shape I’ve been in in years and years. I’ve always struggled with gym routines and staying consistent so moving to a place that is walking distance to campus, but far enough that the walk is a good long one was a a perfect health choice for me, I think.
I want to learn to do nothing. It seems impossible to me. I do not stop from one thing to the next.
This summer I want to get into mountain biking. I used to be an avid road biker, but the city I've been living in the past 2 years feels unsafe for road biking. There are a plethora of trails nearby though, so a mountain bike may be what gets me comfortable on a bike again.
I consider mountain biking my main physical activity. I do some road or gravel rides occasionally too, but like you, I find riding on the road too dangerous. Mountain biking brings its own risks, but I think it's not too hard to ride within your limits and slowly work up to harder trails. My most frequented trail is actually a green, multiuse trail not far from my house. I know it so well, I can rip around it pretty quick and make it more interesting than it should be lol.
Do you have a bike already or looking to get one?
Still looking to get one. I know hardtails are pretty capable and can be found for ~$500 from good brands. I will have to look at the used market as well, but new doesn't seem to bad for entry level bikes.
I love a good hardtail. I find riding a full-suspension too much makes me lazy and skills like line choice get dull. Obviously full-suspension is almost necessary for downhill type stuff.
Used market can be great. I haven't looked in a while, but my full-suspension and first hardtail both came from FB marketplace, basically unused and 40% off from new.
I would highly suggest looking at used. Definitely check out pink bike's buysell section. For $500, even from good brands, you might not be getting disk brakes. I'd consider them pretty essential for mountain biking, so I'd double check on stuff around that price.
Disc golf. Usually I play some in the spring, but the courses have been muddy, and I’ve been busy for the most part around the house.
Disc golf is so great. I fondly remember a summer back in high school where a few friends and I would go to a course near us 3-4 times a week. So much fun to just be able to hang out in the woods and do a low stress activity.
Been playing beach vball since April.
Also looking forward to getting a bit of pickleball in this year.
But mostly happy for beach season :)
Not melting. No but I live in Texas and it hasn’t been under 100F in over a week and counting. For us summertime is avoiding the sun as much as possible haha. But in springtime I do a lot of gardening and have been trying to clean up our yard since we bought our house a few years ago.
I’ve got a few alpine overnight hikes lined up with friends. Always one of the highlights of summer — there is nothing quite like being up in the alpine.
Beyond that, not really a lot. A few family camping trips but my kids are still young enough that travelling them is this all-encompassing endeavour so we usually need a holiday from the holiday by the time we get home.
I recently moved to a place with a garden and I am really looking forward to work outside and make it look nice and prepare it for some vegetables next year, have some friends over etc.
My immediate response was "park beers!!" but then I saw you specified something active lol
Okay, y'all are way more active than I am during summer, but I'm looking forward to some kayak float trips, plus swimming along the way. Paddling down stream is at least a little active, right? I didn't get to go at all last year, and I really missed it.
But I don't handle the heat well, so the only outdoor activities I plan to do will be in a river; otherwise, I'm going to be an amorphous blob in front of a fan until fall.
Surfing!
Me and my girlfriend surf in the summer, and snowboard in the winter :) it's amazing.
Southern California, so we're 25 minutes to the beach, and 2 hours to the snow resort.
AZ here, swim pool right outside my front door, waiting for the water to get up to 80° before I jump/dive in
