Every single politician, influencer, or any other person with clout knowingly pushing vaccine conspiracies is guilty of the murder of these children and should be locked up in prison.

I don’t live in Texas. I saw a truck in my neighborhood the other day with Texas license plates. I immediately got annoyed and found myself judging this person I never met for being from a place that has a lot of voters who elect terrible representatives. So then I realized that wasn’t fair, there are a lot of nice and reasonable people in Texas, and blaming this person for Ted Cruz or Greg Abbott is the same as a Canadian blaming me for trump.

Then I looked at the truck again and saw the “Let’s Go Brandon” sticker.

Statistically speaking, it’s safer to assume the worst about someone with a Texas license plate. Especially if you’re a minority or LQBTQ+.

Having lived in Texas, "truck with TX plates" is a pretty strong signal in the first place. Driving on the interstate in Dallas was absolute madness, haven't seen anything quite like it up north....

Not to say all Texan truck drivers are bad people, maybe just bad drivers.

Word from my SIL in Oklahoma is that they all pretty much hate Texas too.

As someone who has lived in Texas most of my life, then went to Oklahoma for 11 years (with 1 year in the middle of that in Pennsylvania), and now back in Texas, a lot of us are not happy with this mess either.

I did my part, though. My mom told me this weekend I actually had an extra measles shot. There was an outbreak in Houston when we moved there, so they advised a bonus shot between 1 and 4 years old.

I grew up in Texas and now live in PA, so I find this hilarious. I told my parents that they should consider moving to PA because I would never, ever raise my daughter in Texas after seeing the effect it had on my sister.

That said, people from rural PA seem to be about the same as the people I grew up with in rural East Texas. But it's been 20 years since I lived in Texas, and while it was still rife with racism, sexism, and fundamentalism, I don't think it was as batshit crazy as it is now. I hope PA is not like that in 20 more years.

Having grown up in rural PA, you're not wrong. PA is mostly fine in suburban and urban areas, but the rural areas get scary fast. They still had KKK rallies in the nearest big town to me circa 1992.

Someone in my high school class ~1996 once bragged to me that he went hunting with the grand wizard of the east Texas KKK. So ... yeah ....

Our ancestors dealt with a lot, including unchecked disease. If we are doomed, measles isn't the primary problem.
