Friday Health Achievement Thread - brag and talk about your accomplishments here!
Happy Friday everyone! I thought that a solid discussion could be spawned out of us talking about weekly health goals and how we've achieved them, so I invite y'all to tell us all about them. Have you recently hit a new personal record in weight-lifting? Run your first mile in ten years? Or have you just been maintaining a good, consistent routine?
I got a dog two months ago, and I've lost 10 pounds since then. His tiny bladder and energetic nature means we go on lots of short walks throughout the day (thank goodness for working from home) and so I'm getting up from my desk job and getting an extra hour of walking each day. I was exhausted for a while, but now I'm feeling better than I have in years.
So I kind of got suuuper lazy about working out after moving to an area without a local gym. I started exploring bodyweight fitness about two months ago, and have been consistently working out five days a week since then.
Since the communities don't really exist here yet, I can't advocate for /r/bodyweightfitness and /r/yoga over on reddit enough. You can get seriously strong without equipment (or with minimal equipment like bands).
I will definitely check those out!
I worked out twice this week, instead of three times, but I did my Friday workout even when my normal gym buddy was on vacation. This morning I was tired and almost didn't go, but I'm glad I did :)
EDIT: Also I applaud the idea of ongoing posts like this. Let's cheer each other on!
This week was the first time that I've been able to do 6 sets of 4 reps of bench at 135 lbs. It's been a milestone that I've been looking forward to for a long time.
Fuck yeah, 1 pl8 club! Now to work towards 2 pl8.
Thanks! The next goal is body weight because that's a nice, more immediately attainable goal.
Well the next goal should probably be 140, lol. But yeah, it's great to mark your progress by big milestones. You going to celebrate in any way?
Haha definitely--probably better to say my next milestone is body weight. No plans to celebrate. I'm hoping to ride the momentum into another good week of workouts.
I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic in January at age 27, 5'9", and 218 pounds. I'm currently back to being pre-diabetic at 170 pounds after starting meds, changing up my diet, and doing CrossFit 5 days a week, with a goal of qualifying for Regionals before I hit 30.
Way to get your health back on track! That's an amazing accomplishment.
This is amazing. Nice work.
I've started a really basic bodyweight fitness exercise regimen, and so far I've been keeping with it every other day. It's really not much, especially since I don't weigh much, but it feels good to be bettering myself for once. I've also been forcing myself to eat a non-deficit quantity, which has been harder, to be honest.
I've been on a medication the last 2 months (maybe 3 now?) that has a side effect of joint pain. I'm going to be stuck on it for the next 2-3 months. I've had to drop the weight, reps, or sets early quite a few times, but I have somehow managed not to injure my knees or my shoulder (despite frequently doing so throughout my lifting history) so I'm glad I've been able to keep that up.
It's also had me messing around more with less traditional lifts that I don't feel in my joints as much, so that's been an interesting journey.
Lost 18 pounds this year. So far.
Been taking in less calories. Next step, shop better and eat better all around. I got into a bad habit of not eating breakfast and not always lunch. Then eating way too much for dinner. I have been being more active and eating just the amount I need so I burn more calories than I take in.
Did not work out once. Thought about buying a weight bench. Currently getting fatter and drinking wine.
I tapped someone out in BJJ! I'm also getting my shrimping more efficient (moving from out under your opponent). The sport's making me feel more confident with my body and helps with preventing dangerous scenarios. Personally, I thought I knew my body well, but fighting off an opponent really requires brains over brawns in many cases with bjj or you will get super sore.
Besides that, my DL is now at 3 plates, and I'm getting closer to a 2 plate bench and squat.
