I wish I could say I'm surprised. But you know...we need to get people back on the 'make and buy frivolous shit' bandwagon ASAP.

My family rents a beach house every year for a week. With all of the beaches being closed, and a current ban on rentals in place, I requested to cancel my lease and get a refund. Turns out, unless there's an active mandate up until the day of my rental (was scheduled for June 6th), the only way I could get my money back was if the landlord was feeling generous. I got lucky and my landlord refunded. However, I see that there is a tremendous push to undo those rental bans before June 1st, which is coincidentally when the early vacation leases are taking affect. Of course, there's no guarantee that any shops or beaches will be open, so that will be a blast for all of those people getting screwed out of their deposits or going to a beach town with only essential services open. Great vacation huh?

It's almost as if it's more important that landlords don't have a legal obligation to return funds than it is to insure that high-risk activity (like having wide areas of the country gather to tourism spots) is kept to a minimum.

Not going to lie, that still sounds pretty nice to me. :P However, the lack of any open shops, restaurants, etc isn't the issue, it's the lack of sufficient medical services in such touristy areas that would make me hesitate to go there during this pandemic, even were it an option for me.

I wouldn't mind if not for the beaches being closed and/or dystopian. Like having a hearty meal placed in a locked cage in front of you after fasting for 3 days.

This right here is the crux of why I'm no longer a capitalist, and ashamed to be American. The author is correct in asserting that this is a genocide, a government policy driven genocide in the name of the economy. I may be parroting what the article has already said, and most folks may already understand this, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to comment on this. This situation we find ourselves in right now is the entire case for why we should abandon capitalism for a socialistic economy, more so than we already have. Capital is immoral, and when the ruling oligopoly is strong enough, capital can be murder as well. Nobody should be OK with this, and the people that are, are as reprehensible as the militaristic genocide orchestrators of past atrocities. Recently Trump has called this a war against an invisible enemy. Well if this is a war, I call for the current administration and ruling party to be charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity. The federal authorities and representatives, state officials, local politicians, incorporated entities, business executives and other supporters of this genocidal policy all have blood on their hands.

This is a case for impeachment of Trump, and removal of his cabinet and co-conspirators in this genocide.

This is a case for the reestablishment of an international criminal investigations agency, with the ability to hold even the largest nations responsible for their actions.

This is a case for the corporate death penalty, and criminal prosecution of complicit board members and executives.

This is a case for the prosecution of any capital holder who endangers the lives of their laborers in the midst of a pandemic in the name of accruing more capital.

This is a case for socialism, morality and capital are mutually exclusive.

This might be extreme, and is otherwise out of character, but man is it difficult to avoid fantasizing about building a gallows on Captiol Hill and having some short 'war crime' trials and public hangings..

These started cropping up more and more since the farce that was Trump's impeachment. If there ever was a litmus test of morality, that was it.

If the death penalty is still on the table for the people, so it should be for the policymakers.

I think I'm about ready to leave Tildes, because everyone seems to have a murder boner here.

Maybe you don't notice the people who don't have a murder boner. You're less likely to see people say "man is it difficult to avoid fantasizing about not killing people."

Do not tolerate intolerance means that anyone who thinks cooperation and good comes from anything other than you explicitly wanting to cooperate and do good (that would be homogeneity, of race, religion, ethnicity, culture or castes of age, sex, romantic orientation, pure self interest, money, heredity, etc) needs to be extinguished from existence. Problem is, that's the whole of conservatism ("Others won't be give me a place in society by default so I must get and assert myself at or close to the the top to do what I want for myself, potentially at all costs and by being a dick"), so it all ends up in the chopping block.
