I had the same phenomenon when I showed my nephew Mr. Rogers. He really enjoys shows like The Wild Kratts on PBS but after watching a few of those, I wanted to see if he would be interested in something old school like Mr. Rogers. I was pleasantly surprised when he sat down on the couch quietly and watched Mr. Rogers show us how towels were made.

As someone who isn't around kids at all and haven't had much exposure to them, Mr. Rogers is helpful to me in learning how to talk to kids. Watching him I realize how impatient and blunt I can be talking with adults so learning to slow down, asking simple but meaningful questions, and being patient are good messages to take away.

I remember watching it constantly as a kid, always hoping that this would be an episode where he pulls out the castle playset in the kitchen area and played with it. He definitely didn't bring that out very often at all, but that was okay. Trolley fascinated me as a kid as well. I'm sure I had the same questions the author's kids did about it.

My kids are 5 months old, so we've got a few years before they're old enough to appreciate Mr Rogers, but I cannot wait. I really love the way the author introduced him to her kids as "Mommy's Friend". That's seriously adorable and 100% accurate.

    From the article:

    From the article:

The kids had all kinds of questions about Mister Rogers — including the ones I used to ask as a kid. Why does he go to that house for his show, then leave? Does he have a second house somewhere? Does Mister Rogers’s house have a bedroom? Or at least a bathroom? (I was relieved to discover I wasn’t the only kid who wondered if Mister Rogers had a bathroom).
