I have been Linux-only since 2010, including for gaming.

The last 5 or so years I have been using a small 'console' (750ti, i5) with steamOS installed on it, and steam controllers. I have recently given that away to someone who games more, so now I game just on my Arch linux thinkpad. I play mostly indie games so performance is not a massive issue.

I have also by and large stopped using steam, going for DRM free options instead. Both steam and non-steam setups have a lot of games available to play, I've always been happy with the amount of choice I have.

Games I love are Stardew Valley, FTL, Fez, Dirt Rally (been a while). Used to play a lot of Rocket League (RIP).

Currently playing one called 'The Longing'. It takes 400 days in real time to complete, a great lockdown game.

W/r to open source vs closed source games, I see games as art and use them as such. It's not a great argument I know...

I think Proton is great if it gets people off Windows.

I started to suspect the Bernoulli explanation wasn't the whole story when I noticed that some planes could fly upside down indefinitely, and some stunt planes even had symmetrical airfoils.

    I'm at https://www.bfoliver.com

Is it self-hosted, or do you rent server space?

    Hosted on Netlify.

Do you use Wordpress or another blog platform like that, publish through other means like a flat-file CMS, or did you build it from scratch?

Uses Jekyll. Not the best, I know, but it works for me. I started on GH Pages back when jekyll was the only option, so it all stemmed from there.

I use tailwind for css, which works for a noob like me. I like that netlify can handle this also.

What topics do you write about?

Any movie I watch or book I read gets reviewed. This is mostly to keep my fingers warm. I also write small tech articles, mainly like a personal wiki.

How consistently do you post; or alternatively, why don't you post as often as you would like to?

Usually a few times a week.

Do you keep analytics, or do you write regardless of how many clicks you get?

I toyed with GoatCounter but currently I do nothing. Not that interested.

Is your site monetized with ads or otherwise?

    No

How popular is your blog on average?

No idea. I have three or four posts that I get a lot of emails about.

How do you keep up with other writers' posts?

    RSS with newsblur.

This brief shares both our outlooks - electric cars are superior over their lifecycle, and renewable energy is an important part of the equation.

All that said it also concludes that the CO2 emissions estimates for battery production vary by a factor of 10, something I have also noticed...

You are better off driving your car if it works. Building a new car, petrol or electric, takes a lot of resources.

Off the top of my head, the ~45% of CO2 emissions to come out of an electric car happen in production (the rest being electricity generated from fossil fuels).

If you live in a place that has mostly renewable energy, it's worth the switch (from a strict CO2 standpoint). If you don't, it's probably a waste of resources to change cars when you don't need to.
