One typical tweet for Trump, one terrifying step into post truth for all of us.
The tweet
Why terrifying? As you say it's typical. More noise.
It's terrifying how normal this is? That deepfake is some next level stuff, though.
I realize that's hyperbolic, but as the COVID pandemic goes on, I find when I'm sharing his tweets with my family I have to open with "I know it's not news, exactly, but Trump tweeted <thing>"
Why bother? If they're not news, exactly, why even bother discussing them? Why give them any attention?
Further to that... why bother posting them here on Tildes? There's nothing newsworthy about this man's tweets. They're lies or mistakes or childish rants. They're not newsworthy.EDIT: Oops. I thought I was replying to @Kuromantis.Honestly, I think I need to stop giving it so much space in my head, or it's going to be a rough couple of months sheltering in place.
Yes. Learn to focus on what matters. We can't be chasing down every single rabbit hole in every single tweet by this man. Focus on what's actually happening, rather than the demented ravings of one deluded old man.
Mostly the deepfake setting precedent. If (when?) he begins repeatedly retweeting deepfakes and Fox news begins airing them all they won't be just writing and speaking but also broadcasting lies, which then could also go for GOP campaigning and advertising. How many dirtbaggers would fall for this clip if it was astroturfed on reddit? The rest of the tweets are pretty bland though.
I love that the account renamed itself "Trump & Biden are Rapey" and he has left up the tweet.
For a long while you could easily tell if a tweet was from Trump himself or from his PR team: Android = Trump, iPhone = PR team.
Since then, he's switched to iPhone, so it's a bit harder to tell, but there's still a rule of thumb we can use: Does it read like it was tweeted by an intelligent person? Following that rule, I'd say these are Trump, and this is his PR team.
I'm not sure I can take another four years of this. I have to assume he was talking about the ~Pullitzer~ Pulitzer (I can't even spell it). At risk of not meaningfully contributing to discussion, it's bad enough I don't feel like I can say anything else without saying something really messed up, and it's not even that I'm that mad. I just can't process it.
I'm really not looking forward to a whole bunch of Trump bots saying, "It's just sarcasm bro" now. That's probably going to be the most immediate and noticeable fallout from this recent bout of stupidity. I understand that some people were already doing this, and that was demoralizing enough, but I'm sure this will just make it even more popular.
