Absolutely no one is surprised. This will mark the ninth time he has 'come out of retirement' since 1989.

Miyazaki lives for his craft. I can imagine that every time he tries retirement, he quickly finds himself bored.

I think is exactly it. It's also why I'm convinced that he's going to go out like Osamu Tezuka- with a pencil in his hand and wanting to draw more. And I'm not even joking about this.

I wonder how many zeroes Nintendo wrote on his check? Silliness aside, I look forward to a bit more Miyazaki. My niece and I love the music from their films.

Nintendo? I’m confused, why is Nintendo writing him a check? The only game Ghibli has partnered with was a Sony exclusive (well, for a while it was).

So, the idea that was popular for a minute was that, after the booming success of the Mario movie, an animated The Legend of Zelda movie directed by Miyazaki and animated by Studio Ghibli would be a match made in heaven. Essentially, two modern Japanese titans in Nintendo and Ghibli would crash the movie market. That's where my joke comes from.

No one has confirmed anything and Nintendo has not written a check for Miyazaki, I'm sure.

But it sure would be nice 🙂

The stars have certainly aligned for such a thing to occur. It's hard to say that nintendo and ghibli would come together to bring us what very well could be the ultimate zelda movie experience, but such a combination would appeal to Zelda fans, nintendo fans, anime fans, and ghibli fans at the minimum. That's big money, in my opinion. There are lots and lots of nintendo and anime fans.
