Timothee Chalamet seems like a cool dude and he's been a good fit for the role. And I'm not just saying that because he charmed the city of Hull.

I don't think his voice is the perfect fit for narration in general, but having his dialogue overlayed against the visuals really brought everything together in a harmonious way. I think the film staff and all the actors will continue to nail this.

I'm really excited for it, but yeah, casting Walken is definitely a head-scratcher.

I’m sorry, did people forget that Christopher Walken is a good actor?

I think it's just that he's often given deadpan funny lines and as a public figure he's pretty damn funny with a distinct speaking voice. He appeared a lot on SNL which is probably what comes to mind immediately for the majority of people that find it a weird casting choice.

I'm a Walken fan so I'm excited to see him in this role.

I'm not disputing that he's a good actor. He tends towards certain roles, but it's always nice to see actors expand on their repertoire by showing they have skills playing different kinds of characters, or in different genres of film, than what they might be most known for. I hope he does that.

But ask me if I ever wanted to see George Clooney as Batman. And I never want to see Affleck as the lead in a Batman film. I don't want to see high-profile actors in a film that doesn't offer them the ability to carry their strengths, elevate the character/story, or elevate the script in some way. For Walken, I hope he's cast well and delivers on what was intended. He's a choice and not what I expected for that role (it's sort of a minor one, but sort of not), so I'm not raising or lowering my expectations.

Walken may be known mostly as a meme these days for his idiosyncratic delivery, but he absolutely has the gravitas required to pull off this role. Just look at his iconic scene from True Romance....

Just look at his iconic scene from True Romance. It’s got all your classic Walkenisms, but it is most certainly not a comedic role. In fact, he is terrifying.
