Damn I keep messing up the title. Mods pls help.
About a year ago I started making predictions that this would hit it big among women like Barbie (or Inside Out a few months ago). There was nothing stats wise that made me come up with that prediction, I just know a lot of women that were obsessed with Burton/Beetlejuice. I also think Hot Topic always skewed female.
And that’s what happened, the movie is skewing just like Inside Out 2.
The film also had other things going for it. Tim Burton had renewed interest in himself after the success of Wednesday, Ortega is a rising star thanks to that show and the Scream films.
So I feel pretty good about that prediction. My screening was filled with millennial scene kids many in costume. It made me almost nostalgic for the 00s when that was more popular.
Besides what @zini said (all valid criticism) it's definitely worth watching simply for the practical effects and dedication to the craft. It looks like a real Tim Burton movie, and there's not...

Edit: there's also some stop motion scenes in the movie, which are always nice to look at.

I saw it yesterday with my mother for her birthday. I hadn't seen the original in a while but it wasn't tooo much of a problem I could pick most of it up with context. The beginning dragged a little but the middle and end were pretty enjoyable. The plot got a little crowded and some of the plotlines were basically forgotten throughout and resolved at the end with a handwave.
But overall it was an enjoyable experience. I wasn't expecting anything exceptional and I think it wasn't too bad. Jenna Ortega and Winona Ryder (I think?) were both pretty good.
