When was the last time someone released one of these campy, over the top action movies that this is referencing? It must be at least a decade by this point? I think the closest things are things like the John Wick series, The Beekeeper, or Atomic Blonde which are all a little over the top but present themselves more seriously. I guess the Fast and the Furious franchise and its spin offs might qualify but they seem to rely more on ensemble casts than a leading man.

Yeah, I'm both really excited for his version of Johnny, but also it's a pretty big departure from that character. From the preview though he looks like he's going to do a spectacular job!

The first of the Mortal Kombat reboot was only four years ago. Certainly feels like longer though.
