Aegon's Conquest is a great period to explore, but I'm skeptical of how well it will work in movie format. The scale and budget is no doubt better suited for a movie, but there are just so many moving pieces and characters that I worry none of them will be given enough time to really shine.

I wouldn't be surprised if they only cover the beginning and leave it open for two more movies if it does well.

The usual pattern is to cut unnecessary plots / events from the script, split into multiple movies and combine characters into a single one (Glorfindel/Arwen from LOTR comes to mind). But I...

But I haven’t read Fire and Blood so no idea if it could work.

As someone completely out of the know, how do the books compare to the TV shows and movies? Like has Hollywood already jumped the shark on using the original source material?

The Dunk and Egg show that came out recently is based on finished material. Pretty sure house of the dragon actually has something to draw from as well. I don't think they have enough solid material to build the whole franchise they are planning though, if I remember correctly there was at least one more show in the works in addition to the movie. Eventually it will rely on name recognition alone, George probably doesn't have that many years left and I wouldn't say HBO's writers haven't exactly earned audiences trust with their Game of Thrones record.

For what it's worth, the books are excellent. They do suffer from a Tolkien-ish level of detail at times, and were also written by an extremely horny degenerate.

I watched that first season too, but my partner steadfastly refuses to watch tv series until they've been completed. Quite right - I think Severance is our latest bugbear, I managed to convince them that it was good enough to be worth breaking the rule for, and now we have both pretty much completely forgotten what has happened and don't have much desire to check in for any new seasons that may come out.

Severance became so boring after season one. Once everyone knows what’s going on there isn’t much more interesting things to learn.

that first season is the first novella, of which 3 have been published. but grrm claims he has ideas for like 10-12 more of them. get real buddy, that ain't happening.
