Ugh, I really really hate the "humans are a virus and the Earth (as if it is a conscious being) is trying to cleanse itself of us" trope. I'm also curious how exactly they are going to logically justify the intentional awakening of more giant creatures that will rain destruction down on humanity, because the narration in the trailer certainly didn't do a good job of that. And as much as I like Millie Bobby Brown as an actress, I really hope they don't do a bunch of cheesy "connection" moments between her and Godzilla like they did briefly with the Mothra looking "titan".
Clair de Lune was also a super weird choice for the music as it really clashed with all destruction going on in the background. I was actually looking forward to another Godzilla movie after the 2014 one was actually pretty decent (the first half of it anyways) but this one looks kind of terrible. Hopefully it's just a crap trailer and the movie itself won't be so preachy, cheesy and trope laden.

Re: Humans as a virus — If you look at climate change in such a way it's not bad as a metaphor. A virus attacks an organism, which then responds to restore equilibrium. Human Civilization has "attacked" Earth in that our progress has been too rapid for the natural systems to adapt. We changed things, and in such a dramatic way. The damage we have caused, and are still causing, is creating what may be existential problems for our own survival in the future. Things like super-storms, mass droughts, shifting agricultural zones, etc. If we take some poetic license it can be seen that "the Earth" is "fighting back" against human civilization. Going by one definition of organism — a whole with interdependent parts, likened to a living being — the Earth can certainly be thought of in this way. Definitely not sure how Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah are supposed to be good for humans in the long-run though. I'm very much interested to hear what Vera Farmiga has to say about that.
As a trailer, this wasn't very good. I won't dispute that at all. Trailers in general these days are nearly always lacking. Although I quite liked the juxtaposition of Clair de Lune with the destruction going on visually, but I'm a sucker for contrasted sound & imagery.
True, but the Toho tokusatsu Godzilla films (which I have seen most of) are a different kind of cheesy... the low budget shlocky kind, which is actually fun to watch. The high budget, mass-market...

True, but the Toho tokusatsu Godzilla films (which I have seen most of) are a different kind of cheesy... the low budget shlocky kind, which is actually fun to watch. The high budget, mass-market appeal kind of cheesy that stems from poor writing and over-reliance on focus group testing is not fun at all IMO, just annoyingly predictable.
I saw some speculation on reddit that global warming might wake up King Ghidorah, which is destroying cities/humanity. They go in search of Godzilla/Mothra/Rodan to try to stop Ghidorah. I'm not...

I'm not sure how much of it is true but I like that basic premise. I could easily see Rodan also being 'bad' in the same way as King Ghidorah is from the few scenes in the trailer. Rodan is only destroying human areas.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with this trailer. I am very excited about seeing this movie, and I greatly enjoyed the first one, though generally agree with the consensus criticism it had. King of Monsters looks like it has more shots of the monsters themselves and less focus on the human characters.
To each their own. These days trailers are rarely representative of the actual movies anyways so I will probably still watch it, especially since I love Godzilla and other Kaiju movies. But this...

For anyone not closely following the recent Godzilla reboots, this is a sequel to the 2014 American Godzilla reboot. The 2016 Japanese Godzilla reboot "Shin Godzilla" is the one directed by Hideaki Anno, the Evangelion guy, and is unrelated to the American ones. Wikipedia says the success of the 2014 American one prompted Toho to make that Japanese reboot.
This looks really good! I loved the 2014 Godzilla movie and I loved Kong: Skull Island even more. I really hope this monster universe works out, it's so awesome lol

CGI is a mixed blessing. It cannot substitute for a well-written story, character development and suspense as a craft. Then again, maybe I'm just getting old.
I do like campy films like the early Godzilla movies that were just plain fun.
All that being said; I enjoy popcorn films even those with well worn tropes if they are executed with some care. As someone else mentions, 'Kong, Skull Island' is a treat.
Holy lord I loved that. One of the best trailers I can remember, if not, the best. Clare de Lune was an awesome change of pace for the action instead of the now standard inception blaring tones. I...

I almost didn't want to watch it about halfway through because I didn't want anything revealed to me! The monsters look really cool and I'm beyond excited for this! Aaaaahhhhh!
