Weekly album and EP releases (27 July - 2 August)

Here's a list of a things that came out in this past week, up through Friday. Of course, there's no way to be completely comprehensive with this and we avoided including things where information was too lacking, so feel free to mention anything that isn't on here that you think is worth mentioning. Beyond that, if you have any thoughts of any of these albums, it would be great to hear them :)

Wow - Parted Plains by Ami Dang is the album I didn't know I needed. I didn't even know such a genre existed. I'll be listening to it this days!

p.s. If anyone likes funk, Cory Wong - Motivational Music for the Syncopated Soul was pretty good. It's the only other new album I have found time to listen to so far this week. :/

If you like his last couple of albums, you'll be into this. While it's totally post-Emma, it still has some elements from that record -- but not a lot. Fun record.

I've been listening to a few albums on this list. Really quick thoughts:

    • Have Mercy - The Love Life - really enjoying this one, I've been listening to it a lot. Have Mercy is a band that I've liked for a while, and this is a good emo-ish album that feels a little "lighter" than some of their previous ones. If I was going to suggest a single song from it, Heartbeat is probably one of my favorites from the album. The video for Mattress on the Floor is neat too, it's a time-lapse of the album art being drawn and painted.
    • Russian Circles - Blood Year - Russian Circles is a solid instrumental metal-ish band (comparable to Pelican). The new album is good, but nothing in it's really standing out to me. I've listened to it 3 times and can't even really think of anything that pushes me towards or away from any individual tracks.
    • Slaughter Beach, Dog - Safe And Also No Fear - This is a pretty good one too. I had listened to their previous album (Birdie) quite a few times, so it's nice to have a new one. I think Black Oak is probably the stand-out track on the album for me.
