What I found most interesting about this video is not that Mr. Beast is manipulating his ads (he's a soulless algorithm chaser so I expect him to use any underhanded technique he can) but that it confirms something I've been wondering about for a while - advertisers do know and care about when viewers jump ahead in a video to skip ads. I've kind of assumed for a while that things like the sponsor block browser add on that uses crowd sourced data to skip ads and the Youtube progress bar showing where people jump to in videos would eventually become a factor that advertisers consider and it looks like we're already at that point. If Mr. Beast is trying to trick people into watching more of an ad then that implies the advertisers are measuring this data and possibly adjusting their payout based on the numbers.
Mr Beast also generally integrates his ads into the video to make them harder to skip, so instead of a "This video is sponsored by Ultra Dash Heroes Mobile 3" it'll be more like "And now the two...

Fun video doing maths about progress bars, and showing that they are non - linear, at least in Mr. Beast videos. This feels like it should go against some truth in advertising regulation or something.
I've hesitated to comment because I think what I want to say will make it sound like I'm griping about this video, and I'm not. I promise. lol. …Because what I want to say is that this video is...
I've hesitated to comment because I think what I want to say will make it sound like I'm griping about this video, and I'm not. I promise. lol.
…Because what I want to say is that this video is 10-20 times longer than it should be. lol. And I'm one that normally doesn't do that. I hate people who are all like "TOO LONG DIDN'T READ LULZ". But in this case, I got the point quickly, and while I thought the math was fun and interesting, though it went on WAY too long. lol.
But that said… let me emphasize that I thought it was interesting. And the math was fun.
If there hadn't been the math, I would have actually criticised the video because the nature of the movement of the bar is annoyingly obvious. Disclaimer: I do not watch that channel and I have negative opinions about it, although no hate for any consumers of that channel. So I'd not seen it before.
On the actual movement of the bar: Wow. Unethical and really doesn't improve my already-negative opinion of that dude and his way of working.
But also: If I see that once - pull that bullshit ONCE on me in your video - and I'm never trusting you again. I will go out of my way to make sure I don't see your advertisements now, whereas before I got around to installing a sponsorblock plugin, I didn't mind sitting through them most of the time. But you try that trick? Nope. You can bugger off. lol.
So the premise of the video seems a bit silly to me....... but the math was fun and interesting, so even though I thought it was a little belaboured, it was still a fun watch.
How's that for a mixed message? I hesitated to comment because my comment is the type that I can find irritating when others make about something I like. heh. So truly, I don't mean it to be and I hope it's not.
I agree but I wonder if you have watched many of Matt Parker's videos. With him the point isn't usually just to answer the question he poses but to use it as an excuse to show math being used in...
I agree but I wonder if you have watched many of Matt Parker's videos. With him the point isn't usually just to answer the question he poses but to use it as an excuse to show math being used in different and (hopefully) interesting ways. He's kind of like an ambassador for mathematics sometimes using whatever the topic of the moment is to get people interested in math. That does mean he's occasionally a little clickbaity but at least it's educational.
I liked seeing the wide variety of different progress bar manipulation strategies he used. But yes it could have been much shorter. Ironically Mr Beast is generally pretty good at making videos...

Ironically Mr Beast is generally pretty good at making videos feel devoid of fluff. That’s what makes him so successful at running game shows. Traditionally there’s a ton of filler. Mr Beast videos are at 100% energy most of the time.
Honestly, I agree with you. I watch a bunch of videos from this channel, and most are about 30-50% longer than they should be. I still enjoy them, but I usually end up leaving at the 2/3rds mark...

Welcome to YouTube. I've mused about making a channel called Get To The Point that just recuts other 30-minute videos down to 3-5 minutes without losing any information. Fair use and all that, but...

There's ChadCat, who does minute-long summaries of videos requested by fans. Usually those videos are just about YT-related drama or reacting to news events though.

oh wow I used to really enjoy watching that channel
some of the older content would probably still be fun to watch
Agreed. Another influencer gaming the system and always trying to 'make that line go up''.

And yeah he can be a bit long winded.
