It feels like a positive feedback loop of unthoughtful, unintelligent people getting elected because unthoughtful, unintelligent people vote for them, and they further erode the importance of education and intelligence, which makes people like them more likely to get elected.
Its really depressing, and I think everyone around me thinks I'm being an overreacting humorless crumudgeon when they show me tiktoks of someone glorifying being lazy, or ignorant, or "just going based on vibes".
It really bothers me when I see the instruments of that cultural trend in action.

This could have been handled without kidnapping, separation, abuse, etc. if the policy were simply going to be changed. Maybe they're terrible people, but I don't think it matters if they are. The inhumanity is the point and this isn't how a country should handle a change in immigration policy, even if one were warranted.

Edit: the NY Post link seems to be dishonest "let's kill the yellow man" style of writing, though, so I will be honest and say I did not read it. From Masih Alinejad's own Twitter post cheering on Rubio, it sounds like she's saying if the mother is involved in the Iranian regime that forced so many to flee to freedom, why should her son get to live in the same freedom. Understandable emotions, but the law shouldn't be used to target families, and again the conditions of their detention is not good, and they shouldn't be held in limbo, and imo Alinejad's being a fool. And yes I would imagine other ICE DHS detainees are treated far worse and may not even have the benefit of a lawyer and nobody no matter the crime (again no crime in this case and other ICE DHS stuff) deserves abuse and unjust detention. But. Context is good, even if they in no way justify horrible regimes, knowing more about who this woman is and if she's getting some help is a good thing.
