Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix 2024 - Results
Oh hey, I'm back! Sorry for not doing a post-race report for Monaco. I straight-up forgot about the report. Was hardly a race, anyway.
But Canada, Oh, Canada...Now that was a race! All weekend, the rain (and even hail) had been causing chaos, and the rain delivered even more on Sunday. Around Lap 32, I realized that we still we had half a race to go! At one point early in the race, KMag had cut his way through the field to P4/P5 on Wets while everyone else was on Inters, but as the track dried, he wasn't able to keep it. Still ended up P11, 7 places up from where he started.
Unfortunately, not a great weekend for Ferrari, both starting just outside of the top 10, and then both cars retiring during the race. And I don't quite understand what Leclerc and the strategists were doing switching to Hards right as the rain was coming back to the track.
But otherwise, a great weekend for Mercedes and McLaren, though they had to work for it. But in the end, we return back to the Dutch and Austrian national anthems.

Best race of the season so far, IMO. Starting the race under rainy conditions just made it amazing. I'm so glad to actually see F1 drivers forced to use the wet weather tires.
I was baffled to see Haas start the race on full wets while every other car started on inters, but then seeing Magnussen charge through the field was thrilling. That 8 second pit stop killed his drive though, which I honestly hated to see.
Ferrari had a hard weekend after the highs of Monaco. I hated seeing Albon knocked out of the race due to the collision with Sainz after his brilliant double overtake earlier in the race.
I hope that we see some more racing like this throughout the season!
Also, Albon's amazing double overtake on Danny Ric and Ocon (starts at about 0:30). Talk about threading the needle, especially when there was only the dry line at the time. Unfortunately, Albon DNF'd after 52 laps.
It was a great race. I don't have anything against Verstappen but I find myself rooting against him in every race now.
What the heck is going on with Perez? He's really looking terrible this year. Terrible qualifying and I think he was stuck in 16th for most of the race before his crash.
Unrelated to the race: I saw a presentation on F1TV about the 2026 regs. Maybe they'll work out great but so far they are disappointing to me because the cars are only going to be very slightly smaller. Like 100mm narrower and 100mm shorter wheelbase. I wish they would make the cars much smaller than that.
Tech Talk with Sam Collins? That guy is great.
I think this was one of the only races in which I was actually not unsatisfied by a Verstappen win. He definitely, definitely deserved this one.
