What did you do this week (and weekend)?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
Got my flu shot and COVID booster yesterday. Took today off work so I could stay in bed.
I don’t know why but the COVID shot always hits me really hard — aches all over, and mega fatigue.
I intended to have a nice day off just laying here (what my husband called “very Snow Patrol”). Thought I’d enjoy some reading, gaming, or a movie or two, but I’ve instead spent most of the day just lying in the dark under a bunch of blankets to stave off the chills, unable to actually focus on anything.
It sucks, but it’s still better than COVID.
Had a similar experience last week when I got my covid shot and the flu shot. Felt fine after the flu shot but the covid shot had me sick and sluggish for 48 hours. There's something in that virus that hits hard haha.
Same on the vaccine. But agree that it's worth it. Reminds me I need to get them.
Thanks for the Snow Patrol reference. Thst's funny :) I know what we're listening to on the way to dinner!
I also quite like this cover by Grace Gaustad.
Same for me although I did go in to work today even though feeling like crap. Burnt a lot of my PTO when I got covid a few months ago, and need to make sure I have some for Christmas week. Ultimately I think getting up and moving helped me feel a bit better but dragging myself out of bed was pretty tough.
Edit: I also think the flu vaccine might be causing a lot of side effects this year, I've never had negative reactions to flu or covid vaccines before but while I got both, a lot of my coworkers only got the flu one and seemed to be feeling rough after that as well.
Homework has been a slog so far this semester. Only one class I enjoy, one class I feel like I'm learning in, and the other three, despite being upper level for my major, feel like they were put together without any care and it all feels like busy work.
Work has been a bit tougher because, well, I actually have a couple things to do lol. 2x a week I host a 4 hour training session now. Talking for 4 hours straight is tiring.
But planning to have a date day with my partner tomorrow, so hopefully I can destress a bit. And maybe I'll be able to make some progress with my server rack (which I'm doing as a TiMoSoMo project).
I've had another hectic yet fun week. My team had an offsite this week so our team members from across the US and around the globe all met up at one office for the week and we hung out and got very little work done. This offsite was definitely needed as my team and our 2 sister teams had a good chunk of engineers leave in the last 4 months so morale is a bit low. Still, I had a lot of fun with the team. The highlight for me was this ramen-making activity where we got to make ramen noodles ourselves.
I sadly had to cut my time at the offsite a little short as the second to last day of the offsite was the same day as the Hans Zimmer concert in my region. The concert was supposed to be at 8pm and if I wanted to have anything to eat at all before I went to the concert, I had to leave the office at 4pm to get home by 6 so I could then take the 7pm train to get to the venue by 8. I met those deadlines up until getting to the train. One friend caused a delay in us getting to the station so we took thr 7:50pm train instead and arrived at the venue at 8:30. However, when we got there we learned that the venue was closed because of a security incident that caused the concert to be delayed by 2 hours. This was annoying but my friends were able to sneak into seats that were way better than the ones we bought (I know not the most ethical thing but the seats were empty) and got an amazing view of the stage.
Overall, a fun week!
Had a breakdown. Partner has had an infection off and on for over two months, and is doing home IV antibiotics and is still in so much pain and all we can do is wait until the doctors office opens because the only other answer is go to the ER, again. He's not had a PA in two weeks and it's all been on me since then.
I cannot keep doing this and also I will keep doing this, I have no choice. I'm exhausted.
Got Covid. My vaccine doesn’t qualify for a return even though it was less than two weeks ago, what a rip. My mom got it as well, and she’s on Paxlovid right now since she had a rough time of it last time she had it in lockdown, but my brother is away at school, so he can bunker down there.
There’s also work stuff going on, but I’m on work leave until I feel better, so I’m going to make myself feel better and leave that for another day.
Also got my Gmail storage under control. Deleted all of the newsletters and notifications emails jamming things up and hopefully Google is done trying to upsell me on more storage for now.
It was a busy work week. I had to work for a couple hours today running updates on some servers that couldn't be rebooted during normal work hours. But outside work, things have been pretty good. My entire month of September was super busy so I'm looking forward to mostly just relaxing this weekend and watching playoff baseball. Also gonna try and catch up on some gaming tomorrow.
I did go see a concert on Friday night - Dark Tranquillity and Amorphis. Tiny little venue. It was fun.
