I’ll set the bar high to start — I landed my first big-boy salary job in a major metro area six hours away on Monday and got a lease on an apartment!

Have you ever had a limb fall asleep so hard that you couldn't move it?

That happened to me in the middle of the other night, and it scared me half to death. I went to the Emergency room and they did a CT scan and they determined that my arm was indeed just asleep.

Apparently this differs from the normal kind of 'asleep', where you cut off circulation in a limb and when it comes back you get the feeling like knives through your limb. This was a pinched nerve, so I just plain couldn't feel or move anything. It's actually terrifying because I'm imagining that one day a part of my body will just plain stop working for no reason.

It happens but it's always the circulation thing and comes back pretty quickly, still a bit scary. Sometimes I have both arms going off, kind of awkward.

I should mention that I'm 30 and this is literally the first time in my life that this has happened, thus the terror and ER visit.

Whoa! This happened to me a few weeks ago and scared the shit outta me, too! Sometimes my arm will start going kinda numb depending on position, but I usually catch it and adjust accordingly. Guess I didn’t that one night and for a minute thought I lost the use of an arm. I was swinging my arm around like Ace Ventura thinking “okaaay.. this isn’t funny anymore. come back, feeling-in-my-arm!” It did, eventually... but that period in waiting was no fun. Well, I fell back asleep and haven’t had that problem since, but it’s pretty unsettling to think about.

I have anxiety about this all the time. My mum had a stroke, the entire left side of her body just stopped working. Now dead limbs terrify me, I literally jump out of bed breathing heavy whenever i get a dead limb. I do the smiling exercise in the mirror a to make sure my face isn't drooping.

Yes I've had and it's normal, I usually sit in weird positions and after getting up from the chair I don't feel my leg at all; sometimes I sleep on top of my arm accidentally as well.

What doesn't seem to normal is the fact that the arm was still asleep all the way till they did the CT scan, usually everything goes back to normal to me after 5 minutes, although it's all probably okay since the medics in ER didn't say anything to you.

Obsessed with SUPERHOT. It's more visceral and safisfying than any other single-player game I've played in a decade.

I went to Luzern with a friend, it's one of the most iconic cities in Switzerland (medieval style with lake and mountains) but I had never been there (that I can remember at least), it's quite beautiful. Usually there's a lot of tourists but thanks to corona it was pretty chill.

Made a cake from scratch (cake flour, batter, and buttercream frosting) for my mom’s birthday, yesterday. Well, I made the cake flour and frosting the day before, but mixed the and baked the cake batter yesterday. Anyhow, didn’t realize how much butter and sugar goes into the process. I mean, I knew cakes were sugary, fatty treats...but hot damn!

Used the cake recipe described here and the frosting recipe described here.

I think I over-mixed the batter, though and it came out a little too dense and tasting a bit like cornbread. Really good cornbread, mind you.

Got away to cottage country. We had several campfires, swam every day, usually at a relatively empty part of the nearby beach, kayaked a lot, took our van on a boat, experience two bodies of water that were separated by 60m in horizontal distance and also 60m of height (I thought that was pretty cool), took a lot of photos, ate junk, played board games, caught some fish, and generally relaxed.

I think everyone in our family needed it.

Sent a job application to an organization that I'd really want to spend time with: small, does things for the greater good, creating something fundamentally new through software engineering. I'll assume it was a bad match and continue looking for the sake of my mental health, but it'd be great to get a reply next week.

Although I do want to start working again - I was laid off a few weeks ago - I've gotten used to this life of being able to use my time on whatever my interest leads to, and there's a part of me that wants to cling to the status quo. I know it's not sustainable, so.. I'll enjoy this phase of my life while it lasts.

My uncle and his spouse/wife decided to leave their child (1.something year old baby, can walk but not talk) for a decently large chunk of the day. Since he can't talk, I can't really enjoy his presence. Talking is like, 30% of what makes us human, frankly. I gave lunch to him and he ate pretty well, although it was pancakes so it seems expected.

The schools and education system in general have asked us to hand back our "handouts" so they could be seen and presumably graded. They gave us 2 3rd bimester state (as in state government made) tests (math and Portuguese/grammar), and told us to complete it until today, and so I and practically everyone did. One of the funny aspects of the test is that they handed us out a physical copy but we could send the results online, which seems odd but TBF, I've opted out of using this screen for using stuff other than normal Tildes and reddit stuff multiple times because this screen is too small.

I was watching a biology/science class in evolution and the guy teaching it emphasized that you may not believe in evolution like, half a dozen times and I can't tell if he was doing that to address the lunatics or legitimize them.

Looks better on the wall in person but the best pictures I have at the moment. I always wonder if I could sell my work but I’m never sure if I could sell it for $120 or $1200 depending on what Etsy store I look at.
