Are they for real with this garbage? They're charging a monthly fee for you to store footage on your own hardware you bought, and people are expecting them to act ethically on privacy concerns?
The only way you can store Ring camera footage locally is to buy a Ring Alarm Pro security system, which can store camera footage in its memory in exchange for a monthly fee.

That said, I didn't call the cops on someone continually dragging my trashcans from my garage into middle of the street when we weren't home because a neighbor caught footage and told me the tale about our local neighborhood schizophrenic.
Honestly, this is one of the reasons I don’t do alarms or cameras for home security. If you can’t DIY it, you have to rely on another company to do it, and then they do shit like this. Plus...

Plus there’s the creepiness factor. I much prefer investing in PhysSec for my home: upgrading locks, doorjambs, security film, etc.
Can you elaborate on security film? I looked it up and found a plastic wrap you can apply to glass to make it harder to break. Do you use that to increase the difficulty for someone trying to...
Can you elaborate on security film? I looked it up and found a plastic wrap you can apply to glass to make it harder to break. Do you use that to increase the difficulty for someone trying to force entry into your house through a window?
And separately, do you not use cameras at all, or just not ones from companies like Ring, Nest, Wyze, etc? I tinkered around with Raspberry Pi cameras a while back, using the Motion security camera software, and felt in pretty good control of them. I don’t use them now, but if I needed security cameras at home I would feel comfortable setting up a system using them.
Yes, you apply it to windows to increase difficulty of breaking them. Works best when installed in conjunction with frame and by a professional. No, none at all. I personally don’t like being...

No, none at all. I personally don’t like being watched. For those who want cameras, I would recommend DIY and the r/HomeAutomation approach. Even then, I’ve read too many stories of people with camera footage not getting much help from the cops. I’d rather focus on deterrence (through non-camera means) and delay/deny (locks, safes, etc) which have the added benefit of being passive or semi-passive systems (unlike cameras or alarms).
The annoying thing is that even if you personally don't want or have one, your neighbor across the street can and then your entire house is on camera 24/7. And you can't really do anything about...

Some regions or cities may have laws about such situations, where you're not allowed to have your neighbour's property in view of the camera (it must only include your own property). But your...

Anyone else getting a 404 off this link? Not sure it's the fault of the poster, though, since searching up the article on their site and clicking the found results gives the same problem.

This kind of thing is why I don't do cloud storage (as a rule) or have voice assistants.

People aren't expecting shit. The problem is that bougie assholes buy these things and then this is inflicted on the rest of us unwillingly.

Whatever issue they were having seems to be resolved now. The article is back working again.
