Nice application I've been using for a little over a year and a half, and I feel it is a little under appreciated as far as open source Android apps go.

If you use Youtube on a TV interface (such as on an Nvidia Shield or other set-top Android system), may I also recommend Smart Youtube TV. The one and only thing it does not do is connect to and display chat text on live streams. Other than that, it's Youtube with a lightning fast interface and zero - yes, zero - advertisements of any kind. It's a simple apk sideload.

Does it have other significant advantages than no ads? The native ui is acceptably fast on my Shield, and i have Premium so no ads anyway.

Nope, that's pretty much the main reason to use it. If you have premium it's redundant.

Works on Oculus Go and a Fire Tablet I tried it on, both of those do not have Gapps, so I think it should be fine.

Since it always comes up during any discussion of Newpipe - Another great alternative for people who just want a slightly more featured YouTube client is YouTube Vanced.
