Recommend me a podcast app for android

I'm rather bored of the constant pop up ads on my current one that I paid for ads to be removed for years ago before more recently they changed to a subscription requirement for advert removal.

I'm looking for something easy to use that has no ads by default or has a one time payment to remove them. Extra features such as tags/folders would be great but not 100% required. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

This is by far the best one, and owned by NPR and other public radio services. You can also upload ten hours of audio if that's something you're into.

I had no idea! WNYC, NPR, WBEZ and This American Life --- that's awesome.

They didn't make the app - they bought it well after it was an established and very popular app :-)

Same. I've been using it for 5 years, listening to 95 days of podcast time, and I'm not switching anytime soon. Super configurable, easy to use, reliable.

I switched from Doggcatcher to Pocket Casts at some point and have been very pleased with the switch.

I'm pretty satisfied with https://f-droid.org/en/packages/de.danoeh.antennapod/ . Granted, I don't have high expectations from a podcast app.

Antennapod is what I went with after switching from iOS where I was using Overcast premium. Great features, like auto sleep timer.

Another vote for Antennapod here. They recently added local folder functionality, which makes adding my catalogue of Hardcore History and other long-running podcasts easy and seamless.

Google Podcasts is pretty simple and is tied into Google Search, and Google Nest systems, but I have no complaints from Pocket Casts as well.

I had all sorts of trouble with Google Podcasts. I wanted to use it because it talks to Assistant and most of my podcast listening is done in the bath so being able to say "play the next episode of Answer Me This" is quite appealing. But it kept randomly pausing playback. Even on downloaded files rather than streaming ones, although my bathroom has good wifi so that shouldn't have been an issue anyway.

Ended up going back to Podcast Addict, which isn't very Assistant friendly but does at least manage to play audio without stopping every few minutes.

It has a fairly robust tagging system, although I don't subscribe to enough podcasts to make much use of it.

Podverse here. It earns bonus points from me for being open-source and available from F-Droid. Apparently also has an IOS version as well.
