Feature(?) request: Free talk thread
The ? means, it doesn’t really need to be coded. Technically I could just do it. But i wanted to check in first.
I really like the community here, amd sometimes want to share or ask something really small. I can and have started a whole thread for it, but we might be better served by a short comment in a larger thread.
What do yall think?
Meta but I think we should be extremely slow to add features. I think it’s tempting to act on every request but as a product manager, in my experience most requests are not “absolute must haves” and simplicity and just fundamentally “fewer” features is better.
For example Y combinator’s hacker news is essentially feature complete and there’s not really anything to add. I hope tildes can be similarly slow and measured.
I think you should post a "free talk" topic in ~talk! :)
I like this idea for a space to just talk about whatever without creating a full-featured topic, I think it will also provide a safe space for new users to start participating / test the waters.
Not sure what are possible implications, since I am quite new myself :)
Could be a recurring too?
I prefer more structured conversations about specific topics, so I'd ignore it. But I don't see any harm in trying.
I like it, I'm not sure about organizing but I've had some vague thoughts I'd love advice on, but they don't warrant a thread.
Discussion threads can definitely have their place especially if there's a large amount of topics being created for small, quick answer, questions.
With the way the hierarchy is here I wonder if @Deimos could make it a sub group like ~talk.discussion or ~talk.freechat.
It would still allow for individual threads which would make searching and sorting easier but they would also be categorized.
And all that being said maybe an individual topic would be better because my suggestion of a subgroup might share the same use as the ~misc group.
I'll be curious to see what others think also.
