Did you ping the OP again in your third comment like you also did in the second one? They didn't respond to any of your comments, so depending on what you actually said that third time it might have potentially been perceived and reported as being mild harassment. Although it might have also just been removed simply for repeatedly necroposting on an older inactive topic too.

I think it's just a mismatch of online forum culture not aligning with what you expect. It's fairly normal to not receive a reply for things you helped with, especially if the result is just "it worked", since that's really what a vote is for. Simultaneously, it is somewhat of a rude look to constantly ping someone on an asynchronous forum.

            Is what it is.

On the one hand, that's a nice idea, but on the other, sometimes I specifically don't vote on a response to me that someone else already voted on because it seems like the author deserves to (be allowed to) know their comment didn't go unnoticed, but it's just not really relevant or descriptive enough to actually deserve a vote from the person they responded to.

Could always Exemplary it if it's a working solution that took effort. Seems suitable on all counts.

I totally understand the disappointment of something like that happening, since it's happened to me countless times over the years on various other forums and message boards too. But IMO, if the OP didn't respond to your initial comment, or your first ping, it's a bit passive-aggressive to ping them yet again asking them for a response.

And since making a new comment here also bumps the topic back to the top of the Activity sort for everyone else, that just draws more attention to the weeks old, now inactive topic... which is considered "necroposting". Not all necroposting is bad, BTW, but when a necroposter doesn't add anything new of substance to the topic that tends to be frowned upon.

p.s. Even if OP never responds, I would try to take solace in the fact that your effort was appreciated by enough other users to get voted to the top of the comment section. And should anyone google the same question in the future your answer is there for them to find.

Not anymore because HeyNiceLunchBox has deleted every comment and post they've made...although I don't think they've deleted their account. Still, an unfortunate outcome of an unusual circumstance.

Yeah, I saw that. I hope it wasn't anything I said that drove them to delete everything. I was just trying to explain the potential reasons behind the comment being removed. :(

I don't think you said anything that could reasonably be expected to cause that. I think there was just a communication breakdown due to some kind of barrier.

Not sure who did it, but it looked a little spammy, so probably got removed since two comments going "Hey are you good?" is probably excessive. It's definitely nothing to worry about, since in that comment chain (three of you deep, I might add), you're just trying to be friendly and helpful.
