Yes, you can filter topics by tags by going here : https://tildes.net/settings/filters (also available in the sidebar).
You'll occasionally see a topic if someone has just posted it and forgot to tag it, but the Keepers of the Tags are usually pretty quick to add tags if someone's missed them.
In addition, you may wish to unsubscribe from ~misc. It's meant to be a catchall, but is largely just politics and the weekly video threads right now.
A lot of it hits ~news too, so you could either unsubscribe from there or curate your ignored tags as mentioned above.
Thank you!
Whoa, this is awesome, my feed looks so nice now!
Go to the sidebar, expand the "filtered topic tags," select "Edit filtered tags," then add "politics" to the box, without quotes. Each tag to be filtered needs to be on its own line.
There are some handy documents regarding Tildes at https://docs.tildes.net/, including instructions on filtering tags at https://docs.tildes.net/instructions/tildes-front-page#filtering-the-topics.
Thank you!
As pointed out by others, you can filter based on tags, and you can unsubscribe from places that trend to have links you don't care for. Those are both great points, but they are sleeping on one of the best ways to customize your home page: the "ignore" feature.
Any time you see something you don't care for, click on "Actions" then choose "ignore this post". You will no longer see it.
And I think obviously the best solution is to use all three of these options together:
I agree, a lot of people are sleeping on the ignore feature. I find it particularly useful when one specific post or conversation is bothering me, since it enforces me not paying it any more attention in a way that's good for me.
Thank you!
You can also filter out subsets of tags if you want to be specific. Like you can have
ask.recommendations
andask.advice
filtered out butask.discussions
will still show up.Thank you! Is the synax <community>.<tag> ?
Not quite. Groups can be nested (eg. ~tildes.official), and tags can be, too. So it's more like
tag.subtag
. Usually these aren't very deep, but there's a few common parent tags. "ask" is one of them, and is used for surveys or requests.
