Any jeepers make it over here from Reddit?
As my 2010 Wrangler goes under the knife to replace a shredded rear main seal today, I find myself wringing my hands like a nervous father, waiting for the operation to be over and my wallet to be lightened to the tune of a grand. If only I had had the presence of mind to grab a tranny jack all those months ago when I could afford it, but alas...
Anyhoo... Tell me about your heep 😁
I had an 98 TJ for almost a decade in and after college (2012-2019) for a bit. I loved that thing. Soft top, half doors, was so much fun to cruise with the SO and our dogs.
We lived in a gentrifying part of town with street parking and I had my soft top sliced up multiple times. That was my turning point to give it over to my parents. They still drive it to this day. One day, they will get tired of it and I will get it back. Until then. I can only look back on my TJ fondly.
I had an ‘02 Wrangler until January of this year. It was slowly buckle and dining me to death, so I decided to sink some money in a new vehicle instead. Bought an electric vehicle to get the tax rebate. Feel good about the switch. I’ll always love Wranglers though.
I soo wish I had the bones.for the magneto when it launches. All electric with a manual sounds like paradise.
Oh man, I just had to google this. That sounds absolutely incredible.
I have a 2001 WJ. Probably spend the same amount of time working on keeping that one vehicle on the road as I do my three Toyotas combined.
Not a heep, but my wife has a '22 Cherokee with the 3.2 V6. Love it. Get low 30s mpg on the highway, even with my lead foot.
Disappointed Stellantis discontinued production with no successor and closed the Belvidere plant.
2018 Wrangler. Love offroading in the local mountains.
'08 Commander. But everyone poopoos at it because it's not a "real" joop.
Commanders are pretty rad. I've always been a fan of the boxier jeeps.
I recently inherited my dad's 1944 Ford GPW, it's been in the family since my grandfather bought it in '71 or '73, he was really in an things WW2. Then my dad was really involved in a local club at the end of the 70s, driving their jeeps to Normandy once in a while, and so on.
It's in top condition at my parents's, I'll try to take it for a spin this summer. I haven't driven for about 20 years, and it probably hasn't run for 15 years, since the engine was refurbished.
2018 Wrangler (JKU) here. Live in Florida so great for the beach but I am pretty far from any proper trails. Been to Ocala once but it was so new then I was scared to wheel it proper.
Its still mostly stock, steel bumpers and 3.75 gears though!
1998 ZJ here; completely rebuilt the suspension/steering. Suspension is an Old Man Emu HD kit, which gives me about an extra 2" or so, enough to put some 31" tires under there, which is perfect for me, as I'm trying to keep everything mild about my Jeep. Also went through and did all the maintenance I could do, new wheel bearings all around, brakes, axles, etc, etc.
Unfortunately, it's also been sitting in my garage for about 4 years now, as I had some engine issues, so that's been undergoing a rebuild for that long now. It's a challenging project to get to when most of my parts are at a buddy's house and I have two little kids, but it is going. Currently in the process of getting the piston rings fitted and the pistons installed; last I worked on it I measured out all the clearances for the rings, so now they're ready to be cleaned and installed.
Eventually, I'll get it all back together, install my roof top tent and hit the trails nearby for some fun and camping.
Wow, 4 years sounds crazy to me! Mine is my daily though, so I suppose it would have a much bigger impact on me lol. My plans are currently on hold, as I'm going to trade in the jk I have for a newer 4xe, then do some massaging to that instead.
Not sure if everyone counts it as a real Jeep - but I have a 21 4xe. Most fun car I've ever owned, and I'm currently on day 67 since I last got gas - over 2400 miles.
Sweet! Have you looked into doing any mods to it? I've seen one with a mild lift, but I'm curious about how much the driveline changed to add the electric power, and what that might mean to stuff like suspension, lifts, armour and so on. I'd love to build a hybrid crawler.
Not a jeep man or a fan but literally 3 hours ago I finished changing a main seal to a 2010 wrangler today haha. Is yours burgundy coloured as well?
Haha, nah. Mine is black and mud coloured. Mostly the mud is there to keep the rest of the fluids inside.
