As my current favorite clothing company's motto goes, "We stand for workers rights and workers wrongs!!" More power to the workers!

Hell yes. I hope more will do the same. I really didn't expect to have to redo the 1800s but here we are again..

I'm a contract worker in a factory of one of the big three in Metro-Detroit.

It's been weird around here. You could have asked five different people, you'd have gotten five different guesses.

Some were expecting a total shutdown, others expecting a last minute hail Mary deal to come through at 11:58:59..

The factory I'm at is weird because it's not a production facility. So when word started going around about the 'stragetic strike' we assumed our plant wouldn't be one, but we certainly weren't expecting only three.

I get along well with one of the UAW guys here and he's pretty pissed off. He says he feels shitty being at work knowing other guys are out picketing, taking a severe pay cut on his behalf. Sounds like pre-emptive survivors guilt or something. He will get to enjoy the fruits of someone else's sacrifice.

I'm interested to see what happens.

I wish them all the best. Auto workers are the reason we have a lot of the modern work conventions, I'm looking forward to the 4 day work week becoming standard. Probably not soon, but the push starts now.

Made sense at the time, but much has changed since then. Time to give them back their former benefits, with interest!

Starting in 2007, workers gave up cost-of-living raises and defined benefit pensions for new hires. Wage tiers were created as the UAW tried to help the companies avoid financial trouble ahead of and during the Great Recession. Even so, only Ford avoided government-funded bankruptcy protection.
