Saw this article last night and strongly disagree with it. My partner and I couldn't feel more disconnected from this show than in this season, particularly the fourth episode. That felt like something from a totally different series altogether, more Twilight Zone than the vibe this show has created with tech. That twist was so disappointing, not just in how it didn't feel like it belonged in this show but also because there was a better avenue that dealt with the hell that character had to have been going through than... What we got.

Not too big a fan of Loch Henry either (including the apparent mistake they made referencing both Netflix and Streamberry as existing in that world in that one episode?), for many of the same reasons as the fourth ep, where it just doesn't belong in this show.

I hope BM breaks out of whatever funk started with this season. More episodes like the first and third one are welcome. The fifth is out of place as well, but I also at least enjoyed that one, idk.

The first episode was much rougher than I thought it would be. Where is the tight writing? Where are the great performances? I have to wonder if Charlie Brooker was more hands-off on this season...

Are any of the other episodes worth watching in your opinion?

Black Mirror imo has seen deterioration in quality ever since the third season. Only the first and second actually ever got me immersed into the story and the characters felt human and real.

Literally just 1 and 3 imo. If you're down for disappointing endings but engaging 90% of the episode, 2 and 4. The last one is weird. It definitely is still out of place in this show but enjoyable.

honestly i think the first episode starts off the strongest, but even then it's not that great. The third episode i felt also had some decent black mirror vibes from the original series. It's definitely not the same as it was, but I'd like to argue that even the first couple of seasons weren't as subtle/tight as everyone says they are.

Black Mirror used to be full of cautionary tale kind of stories and now it's just easy entertainment. I blame Netflix, the show hasn't been good ever since they've acquired it.

If you want to watch some Charlie Brooker shows of pre-Netflix quality, check out Dead Set, Nathan Barley, and the Cunk shows (Cunk on Britain, Cunk on Shakespeare, Cunk on Earth).

Honestly I thought it was a great season. I get that a lot of the episodes weren't focused on tech, but I do feel like most of them were still social commentary (which is what I always felt Black Mirror was going for anyway).

For example the paparazzi episode was clearly commenting on people's extreme infatuation with celebrities and how low they would stoop for a score. Plus it had a fun twist that both was surprising and also dished out some justice.

I thought Jane is awful was just about as standard as a black mirror episode could get, although it had more humor than most.

The only episode that felt a bit out of place to me was the documentary, although I still enjoyed the story.

I personally feel trying to always come up with some fancy future technology to get their story across was holding them back, so I'm glad they are branching out. That being said, I watch black mirror because the Twilight Zone is one of my favorite TV shows ever and Black Mirror is the best version of that kind of show since the 40s.
