I'd say a big portion of it is simply the nature of online gaming in that it connects you with random people around the world. Even if only 1% of gamers are horribly toxic, it wouldn't take long to stumble across one since you get exposed to so many different people.

Regarding social media communications, those have always seemed to attract the most garbage people regardless of whether it's gaming or not. See: any thread on twitter discussing US politics

Semi anecdotal, but I was doing college course on data science several years back and found the same baffling correlation when processing a mortality dataset. Overweight and obese people had lower all cause mortality than the rest of the population no matter how many confounding variables I tried to account for. I thought for sure something must have been wrong with my data or methods, but maybe I was onto something.

As someone who struggled for many years with a complete and utter lack of romantic/sexual prospects, I'm very thankful I didn't fall down the incel hole. I sympathize with many of those people, and if I didn't have friends, some of which were female, I don't know that I wouldn't have ended up there.

I have one running mobian, it's not quite there yet. The main killer is lack of MMS support for me right now, if they added that I could daily it, although it is still quite clunky.

There is a syncthing mobile client on android. It does however have trouble syncing folders on external SD cards due to restrictions in newer version of android due to Google not adding DocumentProvider support in Go. I worked around it with the external sd access enabler magisk module though. Works perfectly for syncing my ~100gb music library.

I really like a lot of Apple's hardware, especially their older stuff. The fit and finish is unmatched, and in ye olden days repairs were trivial. I had an iPhone 6S, and you could open it up with 2 screws, and replace whatever you needed (except the damn touchid home button). Same story with the macbook pros pre-2012. You could pop em open, upgrade your ram, hard drive, etc. Also, the iPad is still the only tablet worth a shit. That said, my main gripes with them these days are some really dumb design decisions, and how locked down and unrepairable their devices are. The charging port on the bottom of the magic mouse for example. Or still not having a usable file manager on iOS without jailbreaking, or their refusal to support technologies like Vulkan and newer OGL versions and instead roll their own graphics API. Lightning on the iPhone, no more headphone jack, the list goes on.

For many people, it works fine. If an iPhone does everything you need it to do, I would recommend it. But some things are just impossible. I can't put a 250gb SD card in an iPhone. I can't upgrade the ram on a macbook. Mac OS is actually pretty decent but it seems to be languishing quite a bit these days, and I prefer to run Linux where I get better hardware support and an officially supported package manager.

Tinkering with computer hardware and software has been a long time hobby and I've had even more time during quarantine. About to try and make a custom watercooling loop for my home server to get rid of the constant screaming fan noise, but the main holdup is I can't find any waterblocks for socket 2011 narrow ILM, so I'm going to try and design and 3d print my own mounts for some cheapo aliexpress waterblocks.

Windows updates have screwed me big time multiple times, especially since 10.

Update 1809 left my windows partition unbootable, and trying to install it fresh resulted in an error about being unable to find media drivers. I tried everything to fix it. Eventually had to plug the HDD into an entirely different PC, install windows on that, then switch it back. Worked just fine after that. Also back when I dual booted off the same drive, Windows kept wiping grub from my Linux install when it updated. It shouldn't have been an issue with my hardware, everything in my PC is reasonably modern.

Also as the other poster mentioned, WSL has terrible performance. You'd be better off running a headless VM and SSH'ing into it.

A good chunk of the "SFW" boards would not be considered SFW by any reasonable metric. I wouldn't get caught dead browsing /co/ or /a/ at work. I don't think this will work well at all.

Tabs for indentation, spaces for alignment. It's fairly easy to set up most IDEs and text editors to handle this for you.
