    So, I'm looking for a platform where I can dump my ramblings basically xD. I mostly don't want a "free" platform funded by advertisements. Everything else (e.g. built on FOSS, federated) is a plus. Let's not make the perfect the enemy of the good.

    Thanks =)

    I'm trying to set up a custom domain for my email yes. And you are right, my email provider supports custom domains and has instructions on how to set it up.

    Now the question is: what is a good custom domain? The name part is easy, but the part after @ is tricky. In my country we don't speak English but I also deal with foreigners. That's why I came up with the @personal because it seemed simple, but maybe you guys have better ideas.

    I tried to do a quick search and can't find an example of exactly what I want to do. I want to keep my email provider but change how it "looks" or said in another way, change the address itself. The reason for that is that I ditched Google to a lesser known email provider but I hate having to spell out my address to everyone because they don't know about said provider.

    My idea would be to create something like myname@personal.com. Is there a name for what I want to do? Is it possible?

    Thanks.

    • So the idea with the LeakyReLU with alpha = 1 is to have a function that is at least C^2. Meaning a function that can be differentiated twice;
    • EDIT: the activation functions in the hidden layers are placeholders. For now in only focusing on the custom loss;
    • When converting the data into a Tensor I also get those messages. The thing is, if I don't make the data a Tensor, then code that follows won't work.

    I will pick up the code again in the next few days so I will think about what you said and reply back.

    I'm doing a project that involves training an artificial neural network, more specifically a multi-layer perceptron. I'm doing it on Python using Tensorflow which makes things relatively simple. The hard part comes when I want to create a custom loss function that includes the derivative of the ANN with respect to inputs of the model.

    I have more than 6M observations and it blows up (meaning the available RAM is not enough) both my machine (16GB) and Google's Colab (who knows how many GBs that thing has. I've resigned myself to do slow training to only around 100k observations and continue the project that way. I need it finished by the end of the year.

    There is obviously some problem in my code (most likely in how I'm calculating the derivatives) but I can't figure it out. Tried StackOverflow and Reddit but to no avail.

    I'm reading Philipp K Janert's - Data Analysis with Open Source Tools: A Hands-On Guide for Programmers and Data Scientists. It's part of the curriculum for the The Open-Source Data Science Masters (https://github.com/datasciencemasters/go).

    I found the book boring to begin with but now I'm trying to be more disciplined in my reading. I uninstalled some distractions on my phone so I either read this book or some articles on Data Science or Machine Learning. The book starts looking at a bunch of visualization techniques which I find boring but now it's starting to touch on statistics, simulations, modeling, etc. That's the stuff I really like.

    Gran Turismo 3
    I decided to take my PS2 out of the drawer and see what it could do software wise in 2021. Well now you can play DVDs ripped at home without any modchip or play games via Ethernet, HDD or USB. I own GT3 but I'm playing in via USB just for the fun of it and to save the PS2's laser.

    I am not a driving game kind of person at all but in my limited knowledge this game aged really well. The driving is fun and there are ton's of different objectives you can go for. Also dozens and dozens of cars or variants. I'm playing the Gran Turismo mode where you start with 18k cash and the objective is to clear leagues, championships, races, etc. You have to buy a starting car and you need money for car upgrades. I only bought 1 or 2 cars and sold 1. I have been progressing the game just with prize money and car rewards. There is something holistic about it haha.

    I'm now in the "last" league, the professional league, and I need a faster car for the championships. So I'm going to have to do other challenges to get said fast car.

    I have to admit I am starting to get a bit tired of the game because the races becoming longer and longer which I don't like. Also, to participate in certain competitions you need licenses which are boring as hell to get.

    Skyrim
    Did the same thing to my PS3 as I did to my PS2. Now I'm running my Skyrim of the HDD just for kicks. Started the game today and honestly what I wanted to play was Elder Scrolls Online but I'm on a tight budget so will play what I already have.

    The game runs kind of choppy on the PS3, but I don't think it's going to be a big issue. I'm a forgiving gamer haha. I only played around 1h so don't have much of an opinion yet. I will say I was going to create a dark elf but it was so ugly I just gave up. I always play as myself in games and I didn't want to be an ugly beast loool.

    Well this driving game trend started with Mario Kart DS, then I tried F1 2009 on the PSP and now I'm playing Gran Turismo 3. Hadn't used the PS2 in years lol.

    I'm currently doing rally races and starting the amateur leagues. Got a full upgraded car and 250k in the bank. I'm just accumulating until I have to buy a car for a specific race.

    I also tried Dirt 2 for the PSP but it's weak compared to F1 for example. I have Dirt 1 for the PS3 but I lent the console to a friend.

    Saturday had a session with my personal trainer. I have to be forced to exercise. Then spent the rest of the day trying Linux distributions as I wanted to move to Linux for the next computer. Another possibility would be to continue using macOS. It's really good.

    Sunday, worked on my thesis and progressed on some code that has been blocking my progress for weeks. Still not where I want it to be but it's closer. Then in the afternoon I played videogames. Been into driving games lately.

    In the meanwhile I ended up getting part-time a job in the tech field. I did not disclose any of my medical issues and I think that is the most cautious approach for now. It's been hard very hard getting a job, I don't want to make it even harder by adding my medical situation into it.

    I'm from Europe but I'm working for an American company. The owner seems very accommodative but since I it is a part-time position I've been able to do it at my own pace. I'm also doing school work and those two combined do take all my energy. It's not that I don't have time to do things, I do. I spend a lot of time doing "nothing".

    My problem is mostly procrastination and lack of focus. For example today I decided to take the day off because I felt yesterday was a very heavy emotional day and I just don't feel like working. In fact I don't feel like doing much of anything so I'm browsing Tildes for example.

    From what I understand a company like Google aggregates a bunch of data they obtain from their products, make a person's profile and then sell the ability to better target ads/features/etc to different kinds of companies. I think there are middlemen between Google and the client's but that's how I think things work.

    I think I now better understand the distinction you are making between free and paid users. Paid users are usually companies so let's assume they are keeping IP in the paid platform. I think it's a crime to sell said IP without permission from the owner. Is that where you are trying to get?
