Well that certainly makes sense. Teens will always justify whatever they're doing with "At least I'm not X." Like when the cool thing was cigarettes, it was "At least I'm not drinking/shooting up!"

Unfortunately, until we can fundamentally change teenage urges, we're never gonna keep them from doing things that are bad for them.

I kind of see it as while I'd rather teens not inhale anything addictive, I'd rather them inhale something less harmful than cigarette smoke. As long as there are addictive things around, they're going to be used/misused/abused by teens, I'm a little bit glad that it seems to be shifting towards vapes instead of cigarettes.

Having said that, I do agree about the conduct of Juul the company. Just because we know teens are going to be using them doesn't mean we should let the company encourage it. And if there are ways to make it less popular with teens, I'm all for it.

I did the same thing for this username on reddit. It was originally going to be a novelty where I would respond to all of those PM_ME_X users and I would just drop a comment with whatever their name requested. But I got bored of that after like two times, and then I nuked my old main account and just started using this one full time.

I used overcast until this week. For some reason, it just stopped downloading episodes and I couldn't force it to start the downloads. I switched to pocket casts and haven't had that problem yet.

I think even showing a number of times they've made a post would be detrimental. Maybe build it into the trust system somehow, but keep it hidden from users.

I would prefer both of those things, but usually I'm not in the mood to squeeze oranges (or even limes for that matter, I generally use bottled lime juice) when I want to get my drink on, and agave would be fantastic but it's hard to stomach paying for it when I can get a bag of sugar for about the same price and make simple syrup on my stove and have it last much longer.

I'm really trying to ride that middle ground between the crappy bottle of margarita mix and the ultra fancy margarita with fresh squeezed everything and agave syrup. But even with sub-par ingredients, my recipe is miles above that bottle of Master of Mixes (blech).

I can't do the flavored carbonated waters because of the aspertame. I do find that even just plain carbonated water has been filling that need for a fizzy drink without adding up the calories, though.

From my quick searching, it's because the ice in the shaker is going to melt faster, causing more dilution in the final drink. It also looks better, which can be a big part of the drinking experience.

I'm only subscribed to three at the moment, one of which has been inactive since October (edit: apparently it's actually been since last June, so it's been a year that they've been inactive), and the other that I'm really listening through the backlog but I'll get caught up to new episodes eventually.

Opening Arguments: A lawyer and a non-lawyer talk about various legal issues, dissecting them to the actual issues rather than what's been reported on. They have a pretty strong liberal bias, but they're upfront about it and try to be as fair as they can. I think they're good at being fair, but I too have a liberal bias, so someone who is more conservative could probably weigh in on whether they think it's fair.

The West Wing Weekly: Episode by episode discussion of The West Wing. One of the hosts was part of the main cast from season 4 on (Joshua Malina), and they're able to get some pretty stellar guests because of it. I'm only on episode 8 so far, and I'm also watching the show for the first time, just starting season 6. So far they're very good about keeping spoilers out, so if you're new to the show, you could basically treat the podcast as a "book club" sort of thing, watch an episode then listen to the discussion.

The Hindsight: Book by book discussion of the Animorphs series. They do some very good analysis and whatnot. They've been inactive for a while, though, due to their personal lives. I'm hoping they come back and finish the series soon, I keep hearing rumblings about it but no new episodes.

My wife and I have been on a margarita kick the past little bit. We got a cocktail shaker and started doing them properly instead of just mixing tequila and the bottled margarita mix from the grocery store.

Two parts tequila, one part lime juice, half part triple sec, half part simple syrup. Shake it up with ice, strain into a glass over fresh ice.

We want to try other cocktails now that we have the shaker, but the margaritas have been so tasty that we just keep drinking those instead.

Yeah, that's probably the case. Can't really make money on lootboxes if the players can't show off to each other with their fancy new skins or characters. Still bums me out, though.

They are managing their public relations which ultimately affect their bottom line.

This is exactly correct. If ABC didn't cancel Roseanne, people would have seen it as implicitly condoning her words. Could they have taken other actions that also showed that they don't condone what she said? Sure, but then people would have said they were just paying lip service to placate their viewers. And they'd be right.

This pattern has happened over and over and over again. Someone built the system, they assumed certain user behaviors. The users came on and exhibited different behaviors. And the people running the system discovered to their horror that the technological and social issues could not in fact be decoupled.

This is definitely something to bear in mind during the tildes development. So far it's been going pretty well, with everyone behaving "correctly", with one (or is it two?) exceptions. But the more invites that get sent out, the more chance there is for the site to get overrun by those negative behaviors.

Edit: Having now finished the article, I have to say I really enjoy the last part, specifically the idea of a kind of segregation of users with different capabilities. Sounds a lot like the trust system that's been talked about a bit.

Most of the people who I would want to invite are my fellow mods on reddit. They pretty much already know me as I am going to be here, so there wouldn't be much of a problem. I probably would invite one person that I know IRL, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's already here. Other than that, I wouldn't invite anyone until the site is out of both Alpha and Beta testing.

Edit: It seems like not everyone has invites at the moment. I've checked and I do not have any, but I only joined yesterday, so that's not surprising to me.
