I've picked up EU4 for the first time last week and I'm playing it with two of my work friends. I've played as Brandenberg/Prussia and Florence/Tuscany. It's been really fun to have some guidance and also seeing consequences of my poor decisions. I accidentally pulled one of my friends into a war he didnt know I was fighting and got one of his armies stack-wiped. Luckily he was kind enough to forgive me and give me East Frysia.

I've been trying to adsorb as much info from them as well as watching videos and reading guides. For now I am looking for a good guide that explains what each of the stat modifiers (think Merchantlism +10% or Absolutism -5%) means and how it affects everything else that is going on.

Final Fantasy VIII: The video game that most impacted me as a child. Me, my mother and sister where into the game like crazy when I was young so the the soundtrack was always playing the the background so it was like the theme tune to my house.

Ridge Racer Type 4: Another game from my childhood that still goes hard today. I love that the track switch from the most serene chilled Sunday drive music to music that raises the tension and make you feel like you're a lap away from being the biggest hero in the motorsport world.

Disco Elysium: One of the few game that I consider a piece of art first and then a video game. Everything about the world of Disco Elysium is perfect and the sound track enhances that vibe.

Shout out to Halo:CE when me and my mum would load up that game to play some sweet multiplayer I would always listen to that beautiful menu theme.

Just finished reading The Satsuma Complex by the wonderful Bob Mortimer. I'm a fan of Bob so I knew it would be right up my street. It has some classic Bob Mortimer mannerism wrapped up in a nicely paced crime story.

The story is pretty short so I managed to finish it over a weekend. I'm usually a very slow reader so I was pretty chuffed with that.

Hello fellow worker for a popular Building Society. I usually work overtime on Saturday morning to get some pocket money to buy video games but this weekend there was a systems upgrade which meant no overtime so I made a point to go to the forest and have a bit of a hike and subsequently have a daydream. If you do get Baulders Gate what kind of character would you role?

I recently got a promotion at work and my role now requires a lot more focus and contemplation. I used to listen to lots of podcasts and audiobooks at work but my new work doesn't allow for that as much.

This week I've been listen to a lot of Final Fantasy music and more specifically Potion Relaxin' with Final Fantasy. I love that I can day dream about playing Final Fantasy while being able to concentrate on my work.

Another one for me is the opening theme video to Ridge Racer Type 4. A great song to go with a great opening cut scene really draws you into the game.

I am perfectly situated near several areas of natural beauty in the south of England that are all accessible by public transportation. I'm happiest when I'm trying to to figure out if I'm on the footpath or if I've wondered onto private land and am about to get a stern look from a land owner while I stare at Kamoot. You will always stumble across some English Heritage or National Trust site which always means your not too far away from an overly expensive sandwich and cake.

Thank you for the suggestion this was the first book of his I have read but it certainly won't be my last I've added Feral to my Play Books wishlist.

It is interesting what you where saying about tree not having bacteria and fungi to help break down forests must have been a maze of dead wood and plants walking along the forest floor proper must have been impossible to large creatures?

Do you have any further reading about this?

The Lost Rainforest of Britian is a book about temperate forests in the the UK that have existed for thousands of years but until recently have been overlooked and under-protected. They are forest that exist due to the warm and wet weather that is brought in by the north alantic drift that allow these moss covered forests to exist. The UK until a few thousand years ago was covered in forest but have largly disappeared following the agricultral revolution and the use of land for grazing. Places like Dartmoor and Exmoor would be a wholly diffrent place if public grazing didn't stop woodlands from developing. The book does not advocate getting rid of farming communities by banning the grazing of land but instead argues that we should find a compromise by using public spaces more wisely and giving farmer insentives to help manage and protect new growth. It talks about how these woods can be used as carbon sinks and to help with water storage in local aquifers that will help the local communities stay protected in the coming years from drought and the overuse of the existing soil. The book does not present itself as a solve all solution but does argue that it can be part of the biggers solutions that the UK and the world will need to resolve in the coming decades.

The writing of the book is very nice with a good mix fof well researched and sourced studies as well as anecdotal observations and stories from the author and several people he meets while researching and writing the book.

I've been replaying Ridge Race Type 4 on an emulator recently. The main campaign isn't very long but it has a nice way of implementing additional difficultly on replays by having different vehicles and teams that make steering more difficult but increases the speed and adding a nice drift mechanic especially for a game around that time.

For me the game has so much nostalgia I remember playing it on a tiny TV in the kitchen/dining room as we weren't allowed to have the PS1 in the living room.

The best part of the game is the soundtrack. They also produced a 20th anniversary remix that bangs.

One of the musicians of the game has a YouTube channel where they still produce music in the same style but I currently can't remember their YouTube name. If I find it I will add it.
