I've found that having a go-to video game that multiple people are into can be helpful in establishing some long term friendships online. I have a group of friends I met online that I've been playing Destiny 2 with for the past several years. There are always reasons to come back and just chill and chat/get to know each other better, etc. I see groups looking for players to join their clan and could potentially strike something up that way?

Not that this is pertinent to the digital question, but I've met some really solid people through some local volunteering. If you pick something you're interested in, it's great because everyone else who shows up already has something in common with you!

I've noticed this changing over the years from my options when interfacing with a website or app going from "yes" or "no", to "yes" or "maybe later". I've tipped over the point from being mildly annoyed by this trend to now being angry about it.

Navigate to my bank's web portal to pay bills, "did you want to try and qualify for this new Visa card?"

Launch and use an app, "leave a rating!"

It's even a part of Windows now. When running through update prompts, setting up a Microsoft account is "yes" or "remind me in 3 days". The answer is no thank you!

I want to be able say no! And don't ask me anymore, ever again! How often should a product be allowed to nag you into doing something you have absolutely no intention of doing? It feels like a situation where the dial on the nags could just keep getting turned up to try and force people into just submitting into whatever it is they're nagging us to do. They'll just keep prompting you over and over until you get fed up and just say yes.

Is this mindset actively being pushed by large companies to take away our ability to say no, and stop asking? Are there rules in place for this kind of thing?

I'm in a very similar situation to this! I also have my calendar with friends and family birthdays, and I shoot them a quick text to say happy birthday and ask how things have been. Most can't be bothered to reciprocate. Things really fell off a cliff when I deleted my Facebook account what feels like ages ago now. I feel like people just lazily relied on that to feed them my birthday, and when it stopped showing up in their feed, they never questioned it.

I don't mind being the one to put in the majority of effort, I just don't want to be the only one doing so. If things do become a one way street, I'll just start to put in less effort with those people and seek to place it elsewhere. Making new friends in your 30s is difficult but not impossible.

Like OP, I had a similar situation happen to me with one of my best friends. I empathize with their situation a lot. There wasn't a particular moment I could peg the friendship as having changed, more that it slowly kind of just seemed like they were less and less interested in the relationship.

It's a skinned Anno game set in the SteamWorld universe. I personally am really enjoying myself so far, but I also really enjoy the genre. It's also available on game pass.

Last I went to look at Airbnb as an option to stay somewhere, the "cleaning fee" would send the cost of the room way beyond that of a traditional hotel room. While I'm not opposed to this fee, the heights I've seen the fee reach has really turned me off to the option of using them.

Plus as someone else mentioned, it's an incredibly disruptive service to local communities who could actually live in the housing being used for this.

Lies of P, I can't sing this game's praises enough.

It took me by total surprise. I'm a huge Soulsborne fan and heard that it's similar in gameplay. It's a dark take on "Pinocchio Souls".

It's quite literally a Soulsborne game that's just as polished and expansive as a FromSoft title. It feels a lot like Bloodborne in its atmosphere and gameplay. It has a bit of Sekiro built in with perfect parries, but it's not the sole option in combat, just a tool in the toolkit. It's incredibly unique in that you can mix and match weapon blades and handles, so if you like the stats from a blade and the moveset from a handle, you can do that!

A minor thing that I appreciated as well, is that the story was somewhat straightforward. In comparison, I finish a Dark Souls game, and I barely understand what on Earth it is I just accomplished.

I'm heading into NG+ next and can't wait to play through it again.

My wife and I got to play some Patchwork this week after the kids were in bed. Highly recommended if you're looking for a game designed to specifically be played by 2 players. It is a PvP game, but the stakes are so low and games are very quick! You alternate taking and placing tetrominoes with the goal being the player to fill up the most of your grid (quilt). You pay for pieces with currency and "time" which is tracked on a board.

The holiday themed versions are usually cheaper and, IMO, way cooler than the OG one.

    The Count of Monte Cristo

I've started and stopped this book several times over the years, getting a little further each time then putting the book back down. Similar to you, have heard amazing things about the book and that it's one of the best revenge stories ever written. "The payoff is so worth it! Just keep going it pays off!!". I get past the prison arc, and then completely dread the slog that is whatever is happening in Italy. It doesn't help that I struggle a bit with how the book is written since they're all translations, and a lot of the phrases and concepts in the book don't exist anymore.
