I took a look at the example tests linked at the top of the Readme and, while they are truly stunning, I noticed a dire lack of diversity in the generated images: everyone is white despite the generic prompts, safe for one Asian woman and one Middle Eastern-looking man. There are no Black people in the world of Fooocus - at least this version's.

Of course, it is a consequence.of biased training sets but there is a high risk that the images generated when e.g. prompting for "beautiful woman" will further reinforce what we think is normally beautiful, amplify racial biases and problematic beauty standards, and contribute to the continuing lack of diverse representation in media.

What I do kind about Tildes is that discussions often seem very self-referential - not that we just talk about Tildes (although it's very frequent). Rather, a lot of posts seem to just be there to generate talk between users (as if, no matter the topic, just having Tildes users speak is a value in itself) rather than discussing with a specific aim or problem in mind (e.g. recommendations, a piece of news)

To add to this excellent comment, whose sentiments I share: I think you can achieve the goals set out in the above comment - the ostensible aims of Activity - while counterbalancing some of its drawbacks. I think you could introduce a quality/interest/diversity element to the algorithm by making it smarter, so that "recent activity" only has a very strong weight (~80%) in a scoring algorithm. That other element could consider votes (totals (until a cut-off?) or old Reddit algorithm), look that no one group/tag dominates the front page (aka diversity) or sth else in that direction

Your last part points to the problem with that distinction: A lot of social science is also quantitative.

But more importantly, it makes very little sense to me to divide academia ("science" in the broad sense that doesn't limit itself to the natural sciences) by methodology. Normally, one is interested/specializes in a discipline and engages with research of any methodology (even if one has preferences or only used one type themself) because only that enable one to gain a full picture. If we used your distinction, such wildly diverging displines as medicine and political science or educational sciences and eocnomics would be clustered in the same groups.

I fully support the original proposal of a separate ~socialscience group that is on par with ~science (~humanities already exists). Maybe we could in some way prime peaolle that qualitative methodologies are as valid as quantitative ones though.

Anyway, I will for sure contribute as that's my specialty.

Do others feel like that this is an adequate summary? How does it compare to Preacher and The Tick?

With a filthy mouth and a penchant for exploding people into puddles of blood, "The Boys" has some dark fun with this premise, until it starts to feel like a missed opportunity—the series pilot is a helluva hook, in that it can grab you and then drag you through the next less spirited seven hours, always hoping that something will seem as clever as its great premise.

Note that the title should be read as Finland during it's Council of the European Union presidency and European Commission plan to lay groundwork for carbon neutral EU by 2050. The Council presidency rotates every 6 months to a new country. Most countries use their presidency to push a certain issue. While the Council acts as upper chamber of the legislature (with the Parliament being the lower chamber) compromised of the Member States' ministers responsible for the debated issue, the Commission is the EU's executive, with a President and one Commissioner per MS acting as one united body

Yeah, it's quite annoying how quickly the Spitzenkandidat-system was abandoned. O hope the EP will vote this down - S&D ist already rebelling. She really isn't made out for the job (let's hope the backlash brings Vestager & Timmermans back into the race). Arguably, they were still following the public debate & election outcome until the V4 and the EPP started blocking.

As a German, I am not too happy with this news. Von der Leyen ist quite unpopular due to her failures as minister of defense. It's unclear to me why Vestager, considered a compromise candidate, wasn't picked.

Until yesterday, Timmermans (Social Democrat, former Vice-Head of the Commission, known for defending democracy & rule of law) was basically agreed upon. However, apparently Merkel didn't properly communicate that with the EPP (conservative party in the EP) who still thought they would get the top jobs even though they were the big looser in the election (still staying largest party). More here. The Visegard-4 were also against Timmermans (but could've been outvoted I think) because he started the investigation into Hungary and Poland for violations of democratic and rule of law principles.

Contrary to most others, I personally would advocate for ~lgtbiq. It's much more inclusive (especially because the "q" of queer is in some sense also an umbrella term on its own). While ~lgbt might be more recognized, I don't think anyone only knowing this more common term, will have much of a problem recognizing that ~lgbtiq is related. So, it has the added benefit of being more inclusive without any real downsides. ~gsm isn't too bad either: it's not too common but I don't think that should deter us from using a more descriptive term

I think GitHub or Slack are good examples. You can react with any emoji, which allows for a wide spectrum of short responses. That ensures that users can express their opinion without writing a comment and I think that's useful. Maybe you can have a different up-/downvote system that actually influenced the ranking but where votes are hidden from users /u/Deimos? That probably decreases the tendency to only use votes as "agree" bittons
