My immediate family was meh, but when I came out on Facebook, responses were wholly positive - even from my grandmother’s sister, which was surprising, as she grew up in the 1930s and 40s. Ended up even getting a message a few months later from an old friend from high school who saw my post and stuff, and proceeded to come out to me as being enby, which was cool.

Update, because why not - Today someone I was friends with in high school (meaning I haven't seen them in 5 years) sent me a pretty nice supportive message on Facebook. So that's kinda neat. I sent a response back but they haven't looked at it. But yeah, that was a neat thing.I've been debating with myself internally for months whether I want to try to talk to people I used to know now that I'm less of a depressed, anxious, and dysphoric piece of shit.

Appreciated - I can get the needles and syringes for a fairly reasonable price at the pharmacy - $3 for 10 of each, so $9 total (thanks to a NY state initiative to help reduce spread of disease, I can get them OTC - if I buy them from a prescription it’s automatically $12 before insurance at minimum, and my insurance doesn’t cover them). But yeah I’m using the two needles (one to take from the vial, one to actually inject).

They’re doing training for me on Thursday , so I’m sure they’ll walk me through the whole thing again, but I appreciate the advice, ty!

Yeah, E can be administered orally (sublingually, buccally, or just by swallowing it - buccal administration is discouraged though because it can stain/be bad for your teeth), via a patch, or by intramuscular injection (typically into the thigh). There's talk in the community in various places that different administration methods can work better for some people - some people are fine on pills, for others the pills don't get their levels high enough without getting to somewhat dangerous doses (or they have other health concerns that the pills cause concerns with), patches can irritate the skin pretty badly or in some cases refuse to stick (someone I know uses medical tape to keep her patches stuck to her skin, which seems like a bit of a pain), but injections are typically accepted as the best option as far as effectiveness, from what I've seen - even in cases where people's actual levels were fine, some anecdotally have said they had better progress and results once they started on injections. The main drawback for injection is simply that it's expensive (my copay for a vial is $75 - it'll last me a few months, but still, my copay for the pills is only $7 a month), if you mess up it can be a bit painful, and you have to give yourself injections once every week or two. Also it has been known to go in-and-out of shortage from time to time, though my prescriber said it seemed to be ok right now, at least in my area, and sure enough mine's been filled already, though I'm gonna wait until my appointment next week to actually inject it, so they don't yell at me for doing it before their instruction lol. Also of course you need to buy syringes and needles and have a sharps container and dispose of them properly and all of that stuff.

Bathroom laws are even more directly about trying to keep us out of public life. They target primarity trans women (which isn’t to say trans guys would be unaffected, but a lot of the public seems to forget they even exist), who (in the US) are typically on spironolactone, which is both an antiandrogen and a dieuretic - we’re taking it for the antiandrogenic effects but the dieuretic effect is definitely present. Not being able to comfortably or safely use a public bathroom limits our public life somewhat - especially for those who may not pass, or may be GNC and so more likely to be read as trans. There’s also the recent stuff around passports that’s been kinda concerning, but reports on that have been sorta limited IIRC.

It's not that far off from the original but it's also completely missing part of it. I have played Ladykiller In A Bind, which is pretty gay, so it's not exactly wrong, but...

I don’t really like saying trans men or trans women have it easier - we both have our own struggles and contrasts. Hormones do a lot for trans guys - dropping their voices and even causing facial hair to grow (testosterone is strong), but in contrast they often don’t have a choice on top surgery, other than just binding all the time. Additionally, for those who want it, phalloplasty isn’t as far along as vaginoplasty, from everything I hear. Meanwhile, for trans women, it can vary wildly, facial hair has to be removed by laser or electrolysis usually, voice has to be trained, etc, but trans women tend to have more of a chance of avoiding surgery (some get pretty impressive breasts tbh and I’m jealous and want to steal them), and for those that want it, vaginoplasty is pretty impressive.

A lot of transphobes forget trans men even exist. Their visibility has gone up a bit more recently (for better and worse, in different ways... more visibility and resources available, but also more transphobic garbage sent their way sometimes), but yeah... there’s a good bit in one of Julia Serano’s books where she suggests it may come from a place of engrained sexist thought - the idea that trans men are “moving up” in the world, and thus can’t be blamed, but trans women are “moving down” and thus make no sense to the average cishet guy, meaning they must be mentally ill or doing it for nefarious reasons. I think from what I remember she also suggested that it’s likely because it makes cis people have to confront that their gender may not be as much of a given as they thought, and that scares them.

I mean it’s like saying a non-dysphoric trans person, or a GNC person, can just pass as cis/gender-conforming. Like, I mean, I passed as cis - I think occasional people may’ve thought I was into guys (my parents even did at one point, which was... not very confidence-inspiring, but whatever), but generally thought I was a guy. That doesn’t mean it didn’t suck, or that I should’ve just not transitioned, because I wasn’t at suicidal levels of dysphoria. It’s still shitty having to hide an aspect of yourself, and that would’ve been true of me even if I hadn’t had very distinct or strong dysphoria, or exclusively felt gender euphoria in some situations, and a lack of it in others, which is the case for some people.

I used to say introvert, but honestly now that I’m significantly more comfortable with myself and everything, I think I fall somewhere more in-between. I’ve been making an effort to meet new people to hang out with and go to events with (partly because I get a bit anxious going out alone), and it’s been really great.

There’s a lot of garbage infighting in the community. TERFs saying trans women can’t be lesbians/lesbians can’t be into trans women or they’re just bi. Gold-star bullshit used to gatekeep who can be a lesbian, truscum, and as you mention, enby and bi erasure - additionally I’ve seen bi people get shit just because they can “pass for straight”, ignoring the fact that to do so they’d have to ignore a portion of the people they’re into.

So far I really like it (I sold a bunch of random CS:GO skins I wasn’t even using to get it lmao. Somehow 19 year old me with too much disposable income managed to help currently-broke me out a bit). It’s like, somewhere in-between Shenzhen I/O and Opus Magnum, I’d say. There aren’t as many constraints as the former, but it’s also not as wide open and freeform as the latter. The language used for the coding is also significantly less cumbersome to use, and the puzzles are presented in a bit more visual manner, which I quite like. Also digging the music and story, and the fact that it’s straight-up wardialing.

If you hadn’t seen it yet, check out the special edition they have on the site. It amusingly doesn’t include the game, but it contains the two zines from the game (this game’s manual equivalent) professionally printed, and another couple of feelies, essentially.
