Tilders, would you describe yourselves as an extrovert or an introvert?

Or somewhere in between?

Introversion/extroversion has, psychologically speaking, only to do with how you deal with stress/trauma. If you need active support of other people to recover, you're an extrovert. If you like to be on your own when recovering, you're an introvert.

Not really how anyone uses it day-to-day, but just a fun fact on its original meaning.

In that case, I'm an introvert.

Because by that definition I would be an extrovert. I tend to need people to help me cope with situations, stress and trauma.

But socially I consider myself an introvert because I can't really be around large groups of people for long periods of time without getting tired and stressed to the point of nearly having a panic attack.

So I guess that just makes me a mildly enochlophobic extrovert lol.

I think I relate to what you've described. I describe myself as an extrovert with social anxiety. This often causes me to want to avoid social interactions, a desire completely at odds with my general desire to be around others. It's frustrating.

I'm working on the underlying thought patterns that result in the anxiety, and hopeful that I'll be able to reduce some if not all of this tension over time.

That said, having some social interaction is important. Going a long time without any can fuck with you.

I’d say I’m an extroverted introvert. I love talking and meeting new people, and I’d say I’m pretty social and charismatic. It just tires me out like a motherfucker.

As an example, I was recently at a 4 day convention. Day 1 and 2, I went to every party and met actually dozens of people. Day 3, I hung out with a crowd I’d already met and went back to the same party as day 2. Day 4, was fucking exhausted of meeting new people, so I just chilled with some closer people for drinks.

Introvert. I can manage a few hours of socializing, but I always end up exhausted and not having fun.

Sorry for the off-topic, but I always found it interesting when people called themselves misanthropic. There were times in my life where I thought that I hated society/humanity, but looking back, those times overlapped with periods in my life where I was depressed and isolated.

Could your misanthropy stem from a mental illness/complex or is it different with you, where you made a rational/sober decision to reject human nature? And if yes, why?

I'm not willing to answer that question, but I wasn't willing to ignore you, either.

I'm definitely an introvert, but I've been a musician for over 25 years so I've gotten good at pretending otherwise.

I'm definitely introverted. It used to be a lot more exhausting socializing with others when my anxiety was worse. Then a friend of mine opened a bar and asked me to bartend and I was able to work through some anxiety issues and get more comfortable socializing for hours at a time.

Now, I travel a lot for work and when I'm traveling I'm with a team of coworkers all day, every day for weeks at a time. Usually by the last few days I am very quiet and keep to myself because I'm just so mentally exhausted I'd rather just keep to myself than try and follow along and contribute to a conversation.

I feel like I used to be an extrovert, but in the past few years I've been more of the introvert type (speaking in the sense of the word used these days). Recently I started living a overall healthier lifestyle, and I find myself not seeing socializing as something I am supposed to or something I have to do, but something I really enjoy again. So yeah, extrovert for sure, and I love the fact that Tildes encourages proper discussion online! :)

I am an extroverted hermit. Probably worst off when alone. Often alone. I energize around others, especially people I'm meeting for the first time. Most of my friends are introverted though.

Introvert. I find being around large numbers of people to be exhausting. I'm also pretty shy around people I don't know, which amplifies the effect.

Introvert with good acting ability. I can work with people, and hide my growing tiredness when doing so.

I used to say introvert, but honestly now that I’m significantly more comfortable with myself and everything, I think I fall somewhere more in-between. I’ve been making an effort to meet new people to hang out with and go to events with (partly because I get a bit anxious going out alone), and it’s been really great.

This is an interesting question for me because I feel like I do not really exhibit the main signs of either. So long as I am somewhere I want to be, lots of people being there doesn't faze me, and I don't feel as though I get the telltale exhaustion. On the other hand, I almost never feel a need to go out and meet new people. Overall, I'm generally content to do my own thing most of the time, so I guess that makes me an introvert.

Extroverted introvert, here. Had a sensible chuckle regarding your address (i.e., Tilders). On Reddit, someone asked if participants of Tildes should be called Tildos.

How about an omnivert - majority of the time I am introvert, happy in my own company (and close family) but when needed I can be the extrovert to talk to others and get a task done (although that drains me as it does most introverts).

If you haven't already, have a read of 'Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking' by Susan Cain, a very good book about intro / extro / omni verts

    And hello :)
