I do wish Doctorow coined a better word than "enshittification"...I think the term might distract people from taking the topic seriously.

Can I recommend World of Goo, Undertale, and Baba Is You? Don't think either of those should be too demanding.

World of Goo is a simple and fun physics-based game. A bunch of sentient goo-balls just hang out and want to be directed into a vacuum in every level. You can use them to build structures amongst each other and can try very experimental and creative solutions. Charismatic and cute game. I played it back in 2010 and it definitely demands less than Borderlands 2 would.

Undertale is an extremely popular indie game built by one dev. JRPG inspired, but very unique in its own way. Won't say much about it as I think you should go into the game blind, but it's a lot of fun.

Baba Is You is a 2D puzzle game. Full of logic-gate fun and requires thinking of out-of-the-box solutions (often literally as well).

I understand the feeling. Regardless of whether or not the power users are the heart of a community on Reddit, I don't think I've ever seen such division within a site-wide protest until this past week. Redditors used to stand in unity to fight for a free and open internet. It was a community of free thinkers who were very conscious of looming corporate astroturfing. I think it's been a big wake-up call that Reddit hasn't been this way for over half a decade now.

The majority of Redditors do use new Reddit and the main Reddit app. The majority don't value long-form discussion-based content. The majority love using the voting system as an agree/disagree button. And the majority love how Reddit is today.

Having said that, Reddit will feel the loss of the majority of Reddit users who are most hurt/betrayed by how Reddit is treating them (especially the mods and the users that made Reddit a great discussion hub back in the day). Communities will suffer as the people who actually cared to clean up low-effort content and spam will leave. They'll suffer as the most insightful community members stop offering their opinions and food for thought.

What's left will be the majority that only cared about low-effort dopamine content and highly reactionary people without critical thinking skills. Like you said, Reddit was already circling the drain for years, but this really feels like the final nail in the coffin.

Interesting to hear your experience! Any reason why you liked the 3XL more than the 6?

I went from a Pixel 3 to a 6 Pro. Personally, the 6 Pro after 1.5 years has certainly been a better experience than with my 3. The 3 had 4GB RAM, which was pretty low for flagship phones in 2019 (Galaxy S10 had 6-8GB for example) and thus a ton of my multi-tasked apps would stop running in the background far too easily. I also started having the camera's autofocus stuttering like crazy. When taking videos, the camera frequently stuttered and you could hear it in recorded videos. Of course, the smaller battery in the 3 also suffered a lot--I'd need to charge 1-2x a day if I was taking a daytrip in the city.

6 Pro was a huge step up for me personally. Performance is still great to this day, battery is still decent (I can go a full day without needing a charge still!), camera quality is awesome, and I've never had any bad memory management issues. OLED is also fantastic. Not sure if I'll stick with Google again for my next upgrade, but I'm very happy with what I have now.

Lore, game design, music, world building, theorycrafting, and anything else you can think of. Would be good to find a good Zelda message board out there. It's too good for Reddit, and I don't expect specific game groups to appear on Tildes one day.

I don't think an inactivity quota is the way to go, even if probationary. The current invite system is fine as is right now, as it does act as a self-filtering mechanism anyway. It's likely more important right now than ever. The read-only state should be decent enough to give people an idea if this is the type of content they like to ingest and participate in down the line.

The general consensus is that white men tend to be taller than Asian men, but that still doesn't directly answer your question (which is a good one!). If you would like me to find alternative sources fielding this question, I can eventually.

Otherwise, I can link you to two studies regarding online dating communities/online opinions of sub communities: One talking about online dating preferences and Two, about racism and sexism on the internet.

These studies are pretty interesting to look at and I think they can be fairly eye-opening to its audience, depending on level of previous exposure to the topic.

However, if an Asian woman or woman in general is more attracted to another race, what can she really do about it?

Not much. I think the better goal really is to look at how the mainstream media is portraying role models of Asian Americans. Because of how hard Asian American men are emasculated in modern film, it is so much easier to teach younger Asian girls to think "oh, ew, they're not handsome. I really like the handsome star though!" (aka, the main character who is more than likely white). This kind of calls into hand for needing more AA writers and directors who can write, relate, and understand how an Asian character would act.

A really good example of positive AA male representation is Glenn Rhee, portrayed by Steve Yeun on The Walking Dead. His character broke beyond multiple stereotypes: he wasn't submissive, his identity didn't revolve around a generic nerdy character, he actively took charge and leadership roles in the show, earned the respect of all of his peers, showed he was a sharp and cunning individual, he was fit, and he married a white (meaning non-Asian) woman. It completely destroyed the whole dynamic of previous stereotypes that humanized AA men and I think more media outlets should do that. If we see more films of this character archetype (or at least more variance), it villainizes AA men less so and those kids/teens watching that content growing up can view them just as highly as any other male. We just need to break old stereotypes and pave way for new perspectives to teach open-mindedness.

Anyway, you absolutely did not cause any offense, so please don't feel obligated to apologize! Let me know if you have more questions. I haven't checked Tildes until now, so that's why I replied so late, haha.

Hey there, stepping in as an Asian American man to provide my own personal insight. As a disclaimer, I do not participate or browse /r/hapas or /r/aznidentity or /r/aznmasculinity. I regularly browse and participate in /r/asianamerican, which is a more grounded Asian American community that talks about AA issues from all facets, including confronting the issues of villainizing AFWM relationships.

It should definitely be acknowledged and confronted that treating AA women as commodities is completely wrong, and shaming them for dating non-Asians is wrong as well. I am not disputing this.

However, I do have to highlight that internal racism is a large issue in the AA community. There are plenty of AA women that date any race, sure. However, there is an abnormally large amount of AA women that strictly date white men or strictly do not date Asian men. You can see plenty of this in statistics that you can pull from dating sites or studies performed that you can find in academic journals. I can share a few as well. Part of the problem is that there are AA women who say all Asian men are ugly, or dating an Asian man is like dating their brother. That's clearly racist and it's not commonly spoken about.

I can tell you that I have 5 cousins that are women.

Guess how many of them married an Asian man? Zero.

Guess how many of them dated an Asian man at one point in time? One.

The 4 of them that never dated Asian men all share the same sentiment that Asian men are ugly, nerdy, or un-dateable. It's baseless and racist. This can't be disputed. You can have preferences, but not on these grounds.

We shouldn't let AFWM-hating extremists detract away from the problem that currently exists, which is that there is a prevalent existence of internalized racism that exists with Asian Americans, more so than any other race. There is nothing more dehumanizing than stereotyping an entirely large group of people (Asian men) to being perceived as lesser human than anyone else.

Thanks for reading. I'm fine with fielding any questions you may have.

We've been doing a lot of tutorial projects, but our final project is essentially hands-off and we have actual freedom. The main stage for the final project isn't there yet, but I really want to make a Mega Man X clone with modern Unity particle effects and backgrounds akin to Octopath Traveler. I've been so busy with my job and five other classes, but I've really been dying to get started on a project like this as soon as possible.

Most people don't watch because they want to see their favorite characters keep dying. They watch because they want to see them be happy in the end (at least, that's what I used to watch it for). What a shame AMC runs this show instead of HBO or Netflix.

This both great news, but worth being skeptical about still.

With the original Bryke combo having more involvement in the production of a live action adaptation, I have no doubt that they have a clear vision of how they want a live action version done right. However, from my experiences with Netflix and Asian representation, I feel they've had a history of whitewashing or misrepresentation across a few different Netflix originals like Iron Fist (and I'm not talking about Danny Rand), To All the Boys I Loved, Bojack's representation of Vietnamese people that aren't Diane, and Death Note, to name a few.

I'm hoping they stay more faithful to the animated show's representation of Eastern culture and not just make it another case of white characters fully embedded in Eastern cladded clothing and martial arts. I undoubtedly believe that the live action reboot can be done much better if using Asian Americans with great reception.

I love your reminder about positivity. Mostly because I've been highly eager within my classes and with being able to have the potential of taking so much out of them. The fear of losing it all might be what drives me insane, but I should remember that I took them because they bring me joy to the opportunities I have presented to me. I suppose it's the little things like that which help us reminder to keep moving. And a little bit of positivity can really be what pushes us to move forward in a fulfilling way.

Thanks for your comment--it means a lot.

I find myself feeling overwhelmed every time I go to check off an item or add an item to my planner list. I become worried about skipping readings from the textbook because I fear that I may be missing on crucial information that could help develop my skills and myself further. I suppose it's the concern of falling behind and thinking of the idea of letting things like that pile up is...pressuring.

I do like the idea of re-prioritization and studying flexibility, however. I would look at most of my checkboxes as equal value because I had the mentality that I wanted to get all of them done by the end of the week. In the end, it's not realistic or feasible without sacrificing sleep or running on low brainpower. I'll try and focus on what I consider most important first and tackle the smaller things later, I suppose.

    Heyo guys,

Long story short, I'm a college student in his final semester right now. I've gone through many different phases of my college life between not being sure of my future, wanting to take advantage of my last point in life of youth, trying to grow up and learn to be a competent adult at home, trying to grow up and learn to be a competent adult in the workforce, and everything else in between. Right now, I'm coming off of a summer where I took 9 credits and managed to get As in all three classes while also feeling very accomplished that I felt I've taken many valuable skills and lessons away from those classes.

At the moment, I am taking 18 credits for this Fall semester, sitting at six classes and I'm finally happy that I'm able to be taking a lot of productive and worthwhile classes in my major. I love all of my classes and professors so far and I'm very eager to learn and continue developing myself to be the person I want to be. However, my concern is the heavy burnout that I feel is imminent within a few weeks to a month, as I'm already beginning to feel it come on within the last two weeks.

How do I deal with this or prevent it? How do you personally handle situations where you uphold a lot of responsibility to yourself and you want to keep in top form? Personal stories, experiences, advice, and all of the above are welcome.
