I’ve heard many people complain about needing to watch Rebels to be invested in Ashoka.

Here’s the issue though, I did watch Rebels, and I adore Rebels, and even I didn’t give a hoot about what was going on in Ashoka. The scenes and characters were just… nothing.

Conveniently, I just came across this article on Mastadon.

I think music is particularly susceptible to being overtaken by generative algorithms because it’s inherently pattern based, and has an even tighter set of rules than language.

It’s unfortunate from a perspective of losing the humanity in arts… but I also can’t help but feel that generative music is more fair game than generative text and scripts. Replacing writers with LLMs feels lazy and insidious. Replacing musicians, especially for stock music, feels… almost practical? Certainly more inevitable in my mind.

This reminds me of something I’ve heard on a parenting podcast. One of the hosts lamented that, younger generations “are being told that feeling bad is the same as being harmed.”

I have to say, I’ve mostly enjoyed this season, but this episode was rough. All of the Covid parody (satire?) stuff didn’t really land for me. It was almost like someone had an AI make Covid related jokes, they were just devoid of any insight or commentary.

The Hermes side story felt a lot better, I really wish the episode was entirely that and had none of the Professor’s antics, which is not a sentence I’d ever thought I’d type regarding Futurama.

Conversely, the fire temple is one that I remember being a fun adventure, but it always takes so much more time and effort whenever I play through that section as an adult.

Step Mania is a free, open source version of DDR. It runs on pretty much anything. You can get a dance pad for $20, and then you have a real fun time and give new life to your hardware.

This is where I come down as well, but I’d really prefer a fully thought out native app.

For most people, I suspect what it comes down to is the mental model of using apps vs a browser. I don’t use a browser to go to sites, I use it to search things. Those things tend to be sites, but that’s secondary.

I get that Tildes is evoking the early pioneering feeling of Internet forums in a lot of ways, but that doesn’t override the fact that when I want to use a service, I think of the app first.
