I prefer an ereader and ebook for several reasons:
- getting books in an instant
- holding hundreds if not thousands of books right on your kindle to read anytime
- the built in light so you can read in low-light or the dark
- select a word or phrase and get a definition, Wikipedia page or translation
- search within a book
- see the percentage of how much you have left to read

Comment on Do you have an internal monologue? How do you think? in ~talk
Tony-Pepperoni I do the exact same thing. Sometimes someone will walk in the room while I'm doing it and I have to cover it up because I feel if someone saw they'd think it was weird and I'd get embarrassed .Constantly. I even visualize different scenarios and sometimes find myself acting them out, like with slight hand movements or even mouth movements.

The voice in my head, I think, is my own voice or a version of it that I interpret. It's the same when I read. It's my voice, like when I read these comments. It can actually change when I know I'm reading something by a woman. The inner voice changes to a woman's voice, I think.
I think visually as well. That's a big part of how I think, too. For example, when I'm thinking about a day of the week, I visualize a weekly calendar. Sunday is the first day of it, on the left, and Saturday is the end of it, all the way to the right. So if I'm thinking about Wednesday, I look at the calendar in my head and see that it's in the middle of the week. I would say it's not completely clear, but it's clear enough for me to see quite well.
It's very fascinating that some people don't have an inner monologue and also that there is aphantasia. I only learned what that was a few years ago. Another fascination was reading about how blind or deaf people think and dream.
If I were to do a crossword puzzle in my head, I would imagine a real crossword puzzle. I don't know how I would do it without the picture.

Comment on Redditors of Tildes .. what is the thing you can live without? in ~tech
Tony-Pepperoni Sometimes I'll wonder why I even bother going into the comments knowing it'll be filled with people trying to make the funniest puns, jokes for karma. Or they'll recite the same memes, copypastas. Clogs up the whole thread. The example you put in your post is a good one. An article about an actor sexually assaulting minors and the comments are joking about it. Yikes.

Using r/frontpage, I know a good portion of posts will be things I do care for. It did take me some time to find most of the subs I'm subscribed to to be able to cultivate a nice frontpage for myself.

I think if Reddit comes back and the protests have ended (for good reasons) I'll just stop using Lemmy. I'll stay on Tildes though, I like it here.

Any suggestions on a better bike lock? I know there's no lock that's thief-proof but I really just need something that will take as long as possible to break.

Solid plot, characters and overall just well made.
Synopsis:
In a ruined and toxic future, a community exists in a giant underground silo that plunges hundreds of stories deep; there, people live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. -

I usually find out if there's a sub, and most of the time there is, then I go to the FAQ in the sidebar, get a bunch of information, and then I start to sort the sub by top posts of all time. I've been doing this for the 12 years or so I've been on Reddit and I've been able to get a lot of information.

I'm going to set up my first home server with an Intel NUC, but I can't decide what OS to use. Ubuntu seems popular but I like Pop!_OS and am not sure if that would be a good option. Then there's TrueNas and Unraid, but as a newbie, what's the best choice?
I'm also just curious what everyone else is using :)
Edit: Thank you for your great responses!

After playing and loving Baldur's Gate 3, I decided to go back and play the first game, Baldur's Gate 1, for the first time ever. It's very relaxing and I'm shocked how much fun I'm having playing a 25 year old game. Modern games can be a bit overwhelming with how much stuff it has, so it's been nice to play a retro game.
