Awesome thank you for the tips. I guess I can try finding some more material again. It's the third time I've tried to start, but without formal training, and a very particular vision in mind, it's pretty difficult since I'm pretty decent about figuring out what I should be planning for when coding, but the how part has me hardstuck atm, lol. Once more unto the breach... :)

In your experience, did you find yourself getting more responses to inquiries for guidance on the GD Quest Discord better than the official, with hands-on feedback? I had attempted to get answers when trying it out a few months back on the official Discord and never got a response - and really neither was anyone else I saw posting there. It's really quite the change to the experience I had getting help building a TTS mod I did with scripting; they had several folks in there regularly throughout the day helping out.

The reason I'm asking is two-fold:

    1. I have a very specific desire to create a game that is not covered in tutorials by GD Quest. There's a very few scattered tutorials which do vaguely close to what I want, but not exactly, and their explanations in the videos are, put politely, very difficult to follow, due to what I assume is their eagerness to share, but lack of experience in knowing how to teach. (No shaming for this btw, but it's definitely frustrating.) My vision is, using 2D, utilizing 2d sprites for the creatures and an isometric view for the background. Motion would be akin to something like Mario Party where the players only move at their turn, and only move onto pre-set spaces. The spaces would be fine to all be equidistant away, so long as they can be marked to hold data that is specific to them to be interacted with by the player and creatures. I've just had a bear of a time finding a tutorial to do this that actually takes into consideration the concept of interacting with the spots. I really don't really want to do 3d, because not only am I already very weak with math to begin with (3d movement just is not going to be in my wheelhouse, lol), but also because I just want to get off the ground without worrying about having to learn something else I don't desire to learn like Blender just to eventually make the assets skinned as I want them afterwards. I am very familiar and comfortable making 2D and flat stuff, so it's really natural to just want to extend that.

    2. To be honest, I don't find the way GD Quest teaches to be very intuitive for me. Danger here would be that the people there might be difficult for me to follow if they are giving me instructions in the same way, haha.

I've kind of prattled on long enough though, just wondered if you have any experience in comparing the support you got. :)

I can highly recommend Slice & Dice if you want some measure of control on puzzle solving. Because it has undo, and the way you order things has a very logical path, you can definitely work your way out of most every fight... though every now and again you'll Roll Too Low to fight your way out of it. It's just so incredibly satisfying to build your way to a working set of combos and eeking out just the right way to save your team's life. :)

    Hiya -

I'm looking for some help because despite a lot of Google quality time, I'm sincerely struggling to get a solution.

I have a Plantronics 4220 wireless headset that I use for work (and also to connect with Bluetooth to my PC at the same time between calls), and somehow the audio is starting to flake out. It's like it only gets audio in one ear, but if I tilt my head slightly it'll get into the other ear or sometimes both. Pretty weird... it's something I might expect from a wired headset where the cord itself is dying, but not on a wireless one like this.

Anyhow, I'm very comfortable with tech stuff (building my own rigs for like 20 years now), but I've never really felt comfortable about iFixit kind of solutions where tools or hardware is involved with the hardware. I'd pretty much just rather throw a little money at a pro who can fix it in 5 minutes and charge me $50 or whatever, lol.

However when I am going to look for places that might offer repair services, all I'm getting are locations in the US... but I'm in Canada. Specifically Ontario. Anyone have a source (from personal experience or otherwise) on how I might best look up a place I can get this fixed at? Figuring out what to search for on this subject seems oddly arcane!

If you like FPS, and don't need a firehose of a gun to be happy with it, PLEASE give this game a chance. Right now they have an event going on with some of their highest player counts, and perhaps more impressive is that this game's long-tail is actually quite different in terms of population compared to other games; it historically has gotten dips but also has genuinely grown its playerbase over the course of 5 years, which is incredibly difficult in today's market, so it goes to show just how much this game has managed to convert people with its flavor.

Old-timey weapons (shots matter), an incredible soundscape that is unlike any other FPS I've ever played which pairs perfectly with the pacing of the game because of the "slower" weapons (fyi, they're still quite deadly), risk-reward factor for those who crave it in the format of potentially losing their hunter with their traits on them as well as their weapons in each match, and a very clear objective to fight over which encourages fights to happen, yet still allows you the choice if you've finished your engagement to push on, or to instead lick your wounds and try another match, all add up to a very addictive experience.

I definitely dug Zoo Tycoon as a kid, but got frustrated pretty fast when my zoo got too big and the AI started flipping out. I never really got into scenario challenges, as I just always wanted a completely giant zoo. Either way, great times.

I've always kind of wanted Planet Zoo, but I'm not the sort of person who appreciates the literal handful of animals for $10 more type of game schemes. To be clear, I get it, just isn't something I appreciate gating actual content behind cash drops. Cosmetics, for sure, go for it, but not content.

That said I will probably have a ball someday when there's an end of life announcement and it finally goes into a solid pack that's reasonably priced.

I actually just colored my hair for the month! I'm not a particularly outwardly social bug in real life, but I wanted others to be aware that they are not alone, and that I take pride in my own identity, so this was the easiest way for me to celebrate.

And hey... I got no less than 3 compliments on my walk around about 4 blocks on that same day I got it done, so I know it was recognized too! :)

Celebration of something like this is something personal to you in the end, though. Find what makes you happy; don't pin it on what others expect you to do!

Wicked by Gregory Maguire. I've tried three different times to read it.

I'm someone who has absolutely been known to enjoy stupid "teen reading" quite a lot. But there is nothing quite like the "interject weird sexual innuendo for no particular reason" like this book. None of the relationships felt realistic, and the characterization seemed excessively shallow, even for a book designed on a child's fable. It's supposed to be this "adult version" and every time I get to part 3 or whatever at the most I just finally have to cringe my way out because honestly it's exhausting to read what an adult wrote as though from the perspective of some teens who apparently doesn't remember what it was like to be a teen, and just chalked it up to "I guess I thought about sex a lot."

    Maybe a controversial take.

I loved the musical though. Silly, takes itself seriously when it needs to, and plays the fool when it needs to; honestly a great adaptation. It's the only real reason I gave it a couple chances to try to get me through the book.

    Glad to help. :)

There's a mod that's called Shared Vision also (does what it says on the tin), if you do wish to give your players the ability to pass around a tablet and each has their own actor token, but still be able to "see" what their friendly PC party sees. I personally set up to have a client that literally just has only player shared vision and record that for sessions so that even as people move their stuff around, I only occasionally might need to move the "camera" focal point, and it still captures everything all the party members can see. Kinda like a spectator. That works quite well for in-person stuff too.

    Enjoy!

I have an old key lying around from Indiegala for Taimumari. But despite my capabilities to hold my own quite well in PvP shooters, I suck at platformers. (Insert laugh track~)

So in this case, I'd like to give the community the opportunity to win it, in exchange for their opinions on kemonomimi and why they are the best. Have at it! ;)

I will pick a random user from the replies that provide their opinion sometime on July the 5th. Good luck!

To be honest, Lemmy is much too fractured for my tastes. I do enjoy the more solid front that Tildes provides, and fail to see why Tildes should be automatically unaccommodating to "quick hit" subjects where appropriate.

For example, just as Reddit does, categorize or otherwise tag areas where discussions are required in order to post, and then allow areas where it doesn't have to be thought-provoking. Sometimes folks just want a quick hit of a topic or to feel good when reading social media and don't want or need more. Having a safe space for that is better than forcing people to look for it elsewhere, where there is a lot of predatory datamining, closed-minded forced feeds, and other bad social media trends.

Again, no one is threatening the fantastic discussions and forums available already here on Tildes, and as the founding documents state, even being new here, I'm very much in favor of prioritizing those discussions. It's just it'd also be nice to have other ways to contribute in a less obliging manner, as well.

No prob! In general, it does take a little learning, but once you as the DM have it down, you can create some really immersive things, and when it comes down to your players, they only need to learn the surface of how to interact with their character sheet, which they'd have to do if they were doing FG or any other VTT. It does have a mod which allows you to link to DnD Beyond too, though that is maintained by a mod developer who asks a Patreon Sub for I think like $5/mo. But you as the DM pay for it, then anyone can send you their sheets for you to import, and it lets you access all the books you own there.

    Have fun. :)
